At precisely dawn, I got up and headed for Camelot. The man at the inn's reception looked at me in utter horror, like I'd stepped on a cat's head. I guess he'd seen the wall.
"Thank you for your hospitality," I said anyway, smiling.
"Uh, no problem, Miss." He watched me intensely until I'd walked out.
I was feeling significantly better this morning, and though I knew my strength hadn't really gone up that much, it felt nice to be standing on my feet without fear of falling over.
I predicted my power levels were around 5,000, still a long way to go, but way better than yesterday's prediction of 1,800.
Satisfied, I set off for Camelot, walking casually with my hands in my pockets and humming a tune to myself.
I'd been walking for about four hours when I saw a kid sitting by himself on the side of the road.
"Hey, what's wrong?" I asked the boy.
He looked up at me and smiled. "Nothing. Just resting my legs before I head on."
"You're alone?"
He nodded. "Surprised?"
"Yeah. Who let you go alone? You're like, ten years old."
"Eleven, actually. And I'm perfectly capable of walking by myself," he said firmly.
I smiled. "Of course you are. Where are you headed?"
"Camelot. My family is moving there and they sent me ahead while they finished packing."
"Oh, I was heading there myself. Tag team?" I asked.
"Sure! But aren't you a little young to be traveling by yourself? You can't be more than fourteen," he said.
"Oh, so an eleven year old can travel on his own but a fourteen year old can't?" I chuckled. I can't even remember what I was like when I was fourteen. It was kind of funny.
"You're a girl. It's much more dangerous to move around alone," he informed me.
"Thanks, kid, but I can handle myself."
"I'm sure you can. You just look badass," he said, grinning.
"You little-" I grabbed his head and rubbed my knuckle on it. He laughed hysterically.
Then I let him go, and put my hands behind my head casually. "So what can you tell me about the Seven Deadly Sins?"
"Oh, them? They're a group of seven former holy knights who were accused of massacring an entire village and going rogue. Turns out they've been good the entire time, and they saved the kingdom from a man who allowed a demon to possess him and almost wiped out everyone. His name was Hendrickson," the boy explained.
"Hendrickson, huh?" I mumbled.
"Oh, and each member of the Seven Deadly Sins has their own specific sin that defines them, and they have some really cool tattoos to match. Their leader, Meliodas, is the Dragon Sin of Wrath, and he's totally awesome! He has this power called 'Full Counter' that lets him-"
"Reflect his opponent's magical attacks with twice the damage?" I finished.
He stared at me. "So you know who they are?"
I shrugged. "Lucky guess is all."
He told me about the other Sins as well, a team consisting of a giantess, a fairy, an immortal human, a doll, a mage, and another human with great power fueled by the sun.
"Sound like formidable people," I hummed.
"Yeah, they could probably kick anybody's ass if they wanted to," the boy replied.
