I take a deep breath. I wasn't 100% sure how Revali would act once I told him the news but surely he would be excited. Revali is supposed to meet me at midnight by the salmon pond. I would have told him in our nest but I wanted this moment to be with just the two of us. Plus, Revali is supposed to leave to escort Zelda back from the spring of wisdom in two days so I figured the best time was now. I look up at the moon. He will be here any minute now. I pace a bit and look at my reflection in the pond. I look like I haven't slept for few days which is true. I haven't slept that well. I was kept awake imagining what Revali's reaction would be.
I finally decide to sit down. I rub my stomach and imagine for the 20th time what he or she will be like. Suddenly, I hear the sound of someone approaching and I jump up. It's Revali. Thank goodness. I don't think I could have handled the suspense for another minute longer. "Revali! You're here!" I say and run into his arms. He embraces me and smiles. "Of course I came, Midnight." I step back. "Revali, I have something important to tell you," I say.
"Oh?" He replies. I take a deep breath and blurt out "I'm pregnant." Revali jerks back like he has just touched a burning hot pan. "W-What!?" He exclaims. I have never seen Revali react so much to something. This would be funny if this weren't so important. I briefly think as I start speaking again. "I'm pregnant with a child, Revali. Our child." I look down at the ground. Is he happy? Upset? "Midnight," Revali says. I close my eyes. Suddenly, I feel a pair of wings embrace me. "You will make a great mother, Midnight." I let out a tiny sigh of relief as Revali steps back. His eyes shine with happiness.
"I promise I will defeat Calamity Ganon and all the other monsters in Hyrule, Midnight. I will never let anything that can harm you or our child come anywhere near us. I will banish all evil from the world once and for all. I will..." I laugh. "You will definitely be a great father, Revali. I feel so lucky to have you." I say. Revali's smile grows wider. "And I'm so lucky to have you."
The very next day, Revali takes the day off from training to tell the other Rito in the village that he was having a baby. Everyone was so happy for us and some even left gifts at the door to our nest. I also visited the doctor of Rito village and he told me the baby was going to be born healthy. The day flies by so fast that before I know it, the moon is coming up and Revali is insisting I go to bed to get my beauty sleep.
I get up early the next morning and make breakfast as Revali starts to get ready to leave. "Are you sure you don't want me to stay? I don't want anything to happen while I'm gone." Revali asks after we finish eating. "You don't need to worry. Nothing will happen." I reply. We both walk outside and Revali does one more quick check to make sure he has everything. "Are you 100% sure? I can always cancel. The others will be fine on their own." Revali tells me. "Relax. It's just for the day. You have been away from me for longer periods of time before." I say.
"But what if you and our child get hurt?" Revali asks. "I won't be leaving the village and if something happens, the other Rito will help me." I explain. Revali hesitates. "But What if..." He starts but I cut him off. "It's okay! It's just the day. I promise nothing will happen." I reassure him. "Yeah, I guess you're right. It's just for one day and besides, what could possibly happen in one day? I guess I better get going if I don't want to be late. I'll see you later tonight." He says.
"Alright. Goodbye and try not to worry so much while you're gone!" I say and watch as he takes off into the sky. I watch him fly off into the distance and once he disappears from sight, I turn and head towards the nest. As I head back though, I notice that it's quiet today. Almost too quiet. The birds aren't singing and the wind isn't blowing. I pause and glance around. There are no animals or birds to be found anywhere around me. There isn't even a monster anywhere in sight. Well, this is a bit unusual. I think to myself. However, I just shrug it off and continue home.
