I stroll around the edge of the complex where the less popular attractions and games seem to be situated. But just close enough for the lights to still illuminate my path on the uneven grass.

I get to the opposite end of the carnival that I entered from and as I am about to turn around, I spot an almost camouflaged black rectangular building slightly reclused from its surroundings.

I hope that no one knows its whereabouts so I can finally get some peace and quiet free from human interaction.

Sauntering across the field, I'm left in the total darkness of the night. The leaves on the trees rustle with the gentle breeze of the crescent moon in the sky.

This obscure, isolated and mysterious building intrigues me as it draws closer. I identify an entrance up a small flight of steel stairs only by the blinking red light fixed above the doorway. Oddly, no members of staff are positioned at the door.

I finally get close enough to renter the light and in order to not be seen, I pull my jacket hood over my head. As quiet as a mouse, I ascend the stairs anxiously stopping at the top to carefully peek through the gap in the open door.

Looking inside, there's not much that I can distinguish except from some bark blue lighting coming from the far end. I turn around scanning  the vicinity for anyone who may disapprove of me entering the building. To which there was no one.

I quickly slip inside pushing the door almost shut behind my back and stand still for a moment. My heart pounds like footsteps in my chest and my clammy hands tense at my sides.

Taking slow steps forward, I begin to get a better look at what's inside. I pass through strips of a blackout curtain where the blue light was seeping through.

On the other side was an array of mirrors and blue LED lights from the ceiling to the floor.

"It's a mirror maze!" I say out loud relieved.

Finally at ease, I return my jacket hood to rest at my shoulders which drop as they relax. I exhale and my heart rate returns to normal.

At least it doesn't look like anyone's in here - I think to myself.

And with that I enter the maze staring at my own reflection in front of me. Although I've never been in a mirror maze before, I'm sure it can't be that hard.

I position my arms out in front of me my fingertips stretched out to the glass. I take my time trying to navigate through only picking up my pace when I'm absolutely certain there's no glass.

Not that I'd like to admit it, but I'm kind of having fun. A subtle smile spreads across my face.

After about 5 minutes the confusion starts to hit and I keep repetitively getting lost or hitting dead ends. Frustrated, I stop and slowly turn In a circle looking for a new direction.

As I turned, I saw a flash of white just at the edge of the mirror. I assumed it may have just been the reflection of the light so I brushed it off.

Eventually, I started getting on the right track again and was steadily making my way through the maze. Out of nowhere I accidentally stub my toe into one of the mirror frames and I wince at the impact of the pain.

I bend over to assess the damage and there it is again. Behind me. A flash of white across the mirror. However, this time just below it was a flash of blue. That better not be a ghost I swear.

Maybe someone's followed me here or maybe it's actually just the staff or... I'm overthinking again. I stop myself but can't help being the slightest bit paranoid.

I develop determination to get out that way I can leave before they manage to find me. Increasing my speed, I weave and dodge and snake around the mirrors becoming reckless with my actions.

As I run, the blur in the mirrors continues to keep up, maybe even advance.

I stop. In the reflections of one of the mirrors I see the hope and safety of the open exit door. rapidly, I lunge forward. I'm gonna make it. I'm gonna get out! I'm...

BANG!

I slam into the glass like a sack of spuds, my forehead absorbing most of the shock, and ricochet back off. momentarily, I forget about the world around me only able to focus on the pain.

I hunch over holding my throbbing head in my hands, forcefully clenching my eyes shut. I struggle to keep upright and feel my balance slipping.

Then suddenly I feel a gentle hand reach out and land on my shoulder stabilising me. Apprehensively, I gradually lift my head removing my hands. I stare deeply on edge into the mirror in front of me.

A pair of sea foam green eyes meet mine...
