(IMPORTANT A/N - I'm not making Peter Pan Rumple's father, gonna change it so that they were brothers and Pan was his older brother, but left him when he was the same age he appears to be now so he could live in Neverland forever without feeling and becoming older because of a father-like responsibility. Hope that makes sense 😅😊 it's better too since he's basically still a boy and not a father so it's not too weird 😂)
Pan laid Wendy down on a makeshift bed back at the camp, though looking slightly withdrawn and neutral though obviously concerned. Henry and Elena watched by his side.
"How is she?" Henry asked.
"I fear she's getting worse, Henry," was Peter's reply, as he stood back up and gave Elena a half-smile which instantly rid her of the small pang of resentment she felt when she saw Wendy and Peter together.
"But if I save magic," Henry continued, "she'll live?"
"Yes. But more than that, Henry. If you save magic, you'll save us all. But to do it. you have to truly believe."
Wendy started coughing and spluttering again, and Henry nodded. "I do."
"Good," Peter said in acknowledgement, "because we don't have much time. Follow me," he said, and took Elena's hand in his as they went off to approach the Lost Boys.
"My brothers! Tonight, the dream of Neverland will awaken from its slumber. Tonight, the Heart of the Truest Believer shall fulfil its destiny, and with it, our destiny. Tonight, Henry saves magic!"
The Lost Boys all cheered and applauded encouragingly, and Pan smirked, squeezing Elena's hand and sending tingling warmth through her body as she smiled back.
The day was pretty much a haze to Elena and Henry, the Lost Boys all expectant and hopeful for Henry's saving magic, and all the while Elena stayed with Peter, sitting side-by-side against a large tree in the middle of the Pixie Woods.
"So, you've been here all your life?" Elena asked him in curiosity.
"Pretty much. I came here when I was young, not too long after I'd discovered it. Leaving behind the seriousness of adulthood for living in a place where youth never dies. And it never will, once Henry saves it."
Elena nodded in wonder. "How'd you discover it?"
Pan thought for a few moments, seemingly hesitant before he gave a reply. "When I was younger, my father sold me to a blacksmith. All day in front of hot coals, the sweat and the grime. But, every night, I would say to myself: "Think lovely thoughts!" And in my sleep, I would travel to the most wonderful place. Which is here Elena. And it can be that wonderful again."
Elena's eyes were wide in surprise as she listened. "Well... wow. I- I can understand why this island means so much to you..."
Peter nodded with a half-smile. "I meant what I said earlier, you know. We can be your family, once Neverland's grace is restored. You'll never feel alone again." He took her hand then, and Elena's breath hitched at the action, her gaze shifting to meet his. "I'll make sure of it."
Elena smiled then, feeling more at ease than she had for the whole of her stay, as she let her doubts and worries slip away for the time being. "And how will you do that, exactly?"
He smirked at her comment, raising a brow in amusement. "Oh, I've got my ways, love."
Felix appeared in the near distance, advancing towards them purposefully, blonde locks flopping about his eyes. "Pan? It's time."
Peter nodded, standing up and helping Elena up too.
"C'mon, let's get Henry."
The sky was darkening as the three of them proceeded to get on board a small boat, Peter guiding it across the calm sea. Elena and Henry stared at Skull Rock in awe and interest, feeling a sense of unfamiliarity and value as the boat stopped next to its small grounds on which it stood.
