{Mele is Louis Dog, who always took care of him.

I think it's fair to inform you that I cryed writing this, and I definitely never cryed while writing before. So I guess it'll be fair to put a warning ⚠ before starting to read}

Mele

When Louis was little, his mom decided it would be good for him to be able to connect with a pet. Even if she had been hesitant at first, her mind quickly changed when everybody around assured her it would help her son a lot with his health issues. The boy had always been one of the smaller ones, tiny for his age which might be blamed on him being an Premature baby, causing him quite a lot heath problems in his early childhood along with some growth issues. Since his immune system wasn't the best, his doctor requested for his mum to buy louis a pet. In the doctors opinion, the Constant exposure to weak germs would almost certainly help him develop. Jay Of cause agreed, wanting only the absolute best for her first born but what she didn't thought was what kind of pet Louis would want. In her mind a bunny would have been more than enough, but Louis didn't exactly agree.
Any reptiles were generally out of choice, since Louis' mum absolutely hated these. A bunny or Guineapig were still available choices, Jay thought, when she took a four year old Louis to the pet shop. The little store was placed in the middle of the city, chinchillas, rats, bunny's and Guinea pigs all held tougher in one place. Then, there were cats, kittens, dogs and puppies. The little boys eyes lit up as soon as he saw the store. He always asked for a pet, but until the doctor said it would be good for him, his mum always refused to get him one besides a gold fish, and Louis really didn't like fish since he once accidentally almost swallowed one swimming in the ocean. Since then, Louis was rather disturbed with these slippery animals. Jay and her son spent a good hour looking at all kinds bunny's and other small animals, none of them seeming to get any reaction out of the boy, until Louis suddenly ran to one of the plexiglass cages and pointed eagerly at a little puppy. The boy's eyes begin to sparkle even more, while he jumping up and down in excitement, to the point were the dummy he had in his mouth fell out. Yes, Louis was already four, nearly five years old, but he was a little bit under developed since he had been in the hospital for a very long time, and the dummy helped him to deal with stress so Jay allowed him to have it in situations like this. 'Mummy, I wan'  that one!' he shouted, never taking his eyes of the adorable little puppy. Jay walked up to her son, already prepared to tell him no, when she saw exactly why Louis might wanted this puppy. The little dog had exactly one withe paw, exactly where Louis would always get his immune shots when he fell sick and to say the little boy hated those would have been an understatement. 'Mummy, pwese..' Louis begged again, trying to pet the animal through the glass. Jay took a very long, frustrated sight before softly nodding to avoid Louis throwing an unnecessary tantrum.
The four-year old immediately jumped in excitement, dancing around the cage while one of the employees helped them pick out some stuff they needed, including a collar in blue, matching Louis eye color, a harness, a little bowl, a dog pillow, a leash and of course a name: Mele. On this day, the three of them left the store, not knowing what they got themselves into. From the moment they got home with the dog, Louis was never made fun of again, not even looked at wierd, because Form that day on, he had a really passionated protector.
Back at the store the employee failed to inform the family that the sweet tiny puppy wasn't exactly going to be a pocket sized dog. She actually was  a kangal,a breed which easily reaches a hight of 70- 80 centimeters. So, the young dog quickly grew out of his collar, harnesses and pillow, making Louis the most proud little boy in town, while Jay worried about more and more loose fur flying around. They never replaced the dog pillow she grew out of though, because as soon as she was big enough to reach, Mele always slept in the same bed as Louis, protecting the boy at all costs and at any time . It got to the point were Mele would eat when Louis ate, and only then, often sharing food with him, much to Jay's dislike. The dog was honestly a black-hole when it came to food. Human or dog food- it didn't matter as long as it was scrunchy or came from Louis. She loved her owner equally as the boy loved her, he always took her on hour long walks, practicing both his health and fitness and of course meles as well. They would often go explore thier environment, staying away for hours even if it got dark already. One time they even went a little bit too far, getting lost in the woods around thier hometown.
It had been an evening between summer and fall, meaning Louis would probably have frozen in the drak if it hadn't been for Mele. The Dog had kept him warm, cuddling up to him while laying on his chest to keep his body from loosing to much heat. The next morning the dog led thier way home. Both of them were welcomed from a worried Jay, who treated them with blankets and a hot bath.
Over the years, Louis and Mele grew inseparable, the boy even brought her to school, saying she was some kind of service animal. . Mele was there for Louis through his first year of high school, his first love and breakup, she had always been there to protect him, even when he met Harry. Back in the day, it was Louis first day of college him being 20 already, making Mele 15 at the time. Louis was walking her through the campus the dog following without any leash as usual. Mele looked up at Louis, happily wiggling her tail as he spoke to her about math. 'I just don't understand-' Louis complained, when suddenly someone bumped into him. It was, honestly, one of the most cliche moments ever, when Louis fell to the ground his books flying through the hallway, mixing with the strangers. 'Oh im so sorrry' the curly haired stranger apologized, quickly helping Louis back to his feet, Mele watching them very carefully, only. Waiting for the stranger to make a false move. 'Oh its no problem.' the smaller boy assured, taking his books back from the strangers who had kindly picked them up for him. 'I'm really sorry, I'm new.. And I was so caught up-'  'It's alright, honestly, what were you searching for before you bumped into us?' 'Eh I'm searching for mr. Elves class..' 'great, that's actually my first class of the day as well' Louis smiled, taking Harry along with him. Turned out, they were both going to study child care and nursing. It quickly  became a thing for them, to meet in the mornig and Harry would alway bring some kind of treat for Mele, knowing his contact with Louis was only tolerated, but in no matter liked by the dog. Over the year though the two of them kind of grew on each other, Mele learned Harry wouldn't hurt her best friend, and Harry learned to respect that he would always be second after her. There were several situations were Mele would try to sabotage Harry, for example once jumping on a table and completely eating the breakfast he had prepared for Louis and him, even though she was usually well behaved. After two years of them battling each other, they somehow got to an agreement of tolerating each other's presence, under the condition that Harry would treat Mele whenever he opened the fridge. Harry and Louis meanwhile grew into way more then a friendship. Harry confessed his love for Louis pretty quickly after they met, but Louis took a little bit longer to finally be able to let Harry in, but when he finally did, it was perfect. The couple moved in together after they graduated, Louis of cause taking Mele with him. Harry was the kind of guy, everybody thought didn't existed, the picture perfect image of prince charming. The tall curly head would bring Louis flowers everyday, get him medicine whem he got sick and cuddle him every night, to keep him from freezing, since Mele got to old to jump in the bed with him every night. The once so small puppy got old over the years, being now already 17, which was an almost impossible age for such a large breed. Her fur was getting grey and her hazel eyes got dull, never loosing thier carrying glance though.
'Hey my girl.' Louis greetet her one morning, the old dog friendly wiggling her tail as per usual. 'What do you think, breakfast?' the boy asked, only getting a heavy breath from the old lady. Lately Mele hadn't been the same, she looked tiered, refused to have her meals and wouldn't go to walks anymore only moving around the corner once a day tops. This morning she refused her food again, making it already two days in a row now.
Louis was very worried about his old girl, even though a few days ago  when he took her to the vet, he was assured everything was fine. She was just getting old, delusional a little bit and her eyesight wasn't the best anymore as well, but technically everything was fine with her. Today however she didn't seemed interested in getting up at all, missing breakfast and her usual morning walk.
It was Saturday, Making Louis and Harry both staying at home for the whole day which usually means either a cuddle day or a day at the park with Mele. The tall curly head had already made a little cuddle place for them in the living room, seeing Mele probably wouldn't be up for such a log walk as to the park.
Pillows, blankets and a mattress were spread out Infront of thier large couch, so all of them could cuddle properly. In the bedroom, Louis stood up from were he was sitting with Mele and made his way to the kitchen, starting the kettle before opening the fridge to take out some cheese for the dog. Both boys settled in the living room, Mele joining them after dragging her old bones there, her favorite stuffed elephant in her mouth, a toy she surprisingly got from Harry another day and she wouldn't let it got since then. Harry eyed the old girl with concern. Rationally he knew her odd behavior wasn't common anymore and she was probably very sick. The Dog had also lost a lot of weight lately due to not eating, making her rips stick out a little bit. Still, she wiggled her tail friendly as she made her way to cuddle in between Louis and Harry, seeking the warmth and comfort that it gave her, securing her stuffie under her head. The couple ran thier hands through her fur, softy petting her while she quietly enjoyed the Company. 'Do you think she's going to be okay?' Louis asked quietly, his big blue eyes shiny and wet. 'I honestly don't know Lou, but I will be here for you both of you, okay, no matter what.. " Louis sank into Harry completely after that, knowing the answer to his question was probably no, but Harry making it all better when he told him he would sick around whatever happened. The tired Dog watched the scenery, her favorite person in the world, the boy she raised and protected all her life, finally in the arms of someone who was worthy. Over all these years the dog had known that she had to go one day, leaving Louis alone probably heartbroken. Things changed when they met Harry though, he proved to be worthy of Louis in Mele's quite opinion, he made her boy happy. Louis was still sniffing softly into Harrys neck, holding Mele's paw in the meantime. He loved this dog so much, he would probably give his soul to keep her with him a day longer, but he knew as well, that the old girl had only suffered through the last weeks, hanging onto life by a threat, and he was thankful. He had known Mele since he was so young, he didn't remember a life without her. Her loving eyes not waking him up everyday, her friendly face not greeting him when he got home, her paw prints and fur not covering the floor-,he could imagine a life without her. 'My girl, I love you..' the smaller boy whispered, pressing a soft kiss in her head. They all stayed there for a while watching the tv, Mele had turned now laying half in Harry's, half in Louis lap while she was petted. Somewhere in between two movies, Louis had fallen asleep, making harry the only one awake when Mele suddenly lifted her head. The old dog tilted her head softly, laying her one special white paw on Harry's tight as of asking for attention. Her dull hazel eyes looked straight into his, almost looking sadly but incredibly loving, as if to say 'Take care of him for me, okay?' before closing her eyes.
Harry watched her, knowing what she was trying to tell him. 'Don't worry Girl, I'll take care of him for you, you're the best. Thank you for protecting him when I couldn't' the curly head whispered as he watched closely when Mele's eyes shut down her chest stopped rising and her stuffie fell out of her paw grip. She had fallen asleep once for all, knowing her human would be okay without her now, and her job here was done.
'Louis' Harry softly whispered, tears flowing out of his own eyes when the Realisation sank in that Mele was gone. 'Hm?' the small boy mumbled, opening his soft blue eyes. 'Baby.. She has done it...' the curly head explained, still softly petting Mele's body. Louis shot up, trying to shook her a few times before finally accepting that she had gained her wings.

They buried her a few days later in her favorite blanket, her favorite toys, her lesh and a couple of Louis favorite things including a picture of them from the day he adopted her laying beside her.

'I love you girl' Louis whispered, allowing Harry to burie her.
'I love you too' someone thought from above.
Harry proved Mele right in the future, never betraying her trust. The tall curly head stood by Louis' side to all stages of grief, through his first year in the job, finally tieing the bound when he asked Louis to marry him a year later.
Mele was always present though. The couple planted a rose bush on her grave, the flowers always blooming around the same time when her deaths anniversary repeated. The blue eyed boy always keeped her stuffed elephant as well, the toy being the thing which reminded him of her most.

'Thank you girl' Harry whispered to the sky, cutting exactly one rose from the bush, sticking it into his suit pocket. This way she would be there today, Louis special day.
She deserved to know Louis was happy again after her death, that he was taken care off, just how Harry had promised.
Harry would always stick to it. Saying the most meaningful 'I do' a few hours later, the rose directly placed over his heart.
