HARRY'S (POV)

I dragged Melissa as we followed Josh. I kept glancing and shooting looks at Josh when I found him glaring at Melissa in the most primal way possible. Friend, or no friend, he didn't have any right to try and flirt with her. And knowing Mel, she probably had no experience in the department of fending off perverts either.

"Can we go," Melissa whispered, close enough that only I could hear.

"If it gets worse than this, I promise I'll be the first one to drag you out of here," I assured her with a smile, which she returned back tentatively.

"Okay."

Josh led us into what looked like the foyer. Couples were literally passed out in every corner of the room, slurring on top of each other, moaning and cursing in the process. Josh walked over to a couch while Melissa and me followed. I immediately recognized the people seated on the couch, although considering by the way they were drunk right now, I couldn't contemplate if they would recognize me or not.

"Harold," Danny half spoke, half sung as we came into view. "Man, long time no see. Where have you been recently?"

"Hey man," I started to answer, but instantly growled when I caught the whole lot of them focusing their eyes on Mel, who just looked afraid and totally out of place. What was it with these guys staring at my....

My heart lurched at the thought of what I was going to call her. I was almost going to identify her as my girlfriend. Was she that? Did I want her to be that? I was quickly snapped out from my thoughts as Danny stumbled over with a cheeky smile on his face.

"Hey, sweetheart. Never seen you around her before."

"I'm from Washington," Melissa squeaked.

"What's your name, sweetie?"

"Uh," Melissa turned towards me for confirmation and my heart warmed at the thought of her looking at me for comfort. I knew I was the only reliable person here, but despite that, Melissa seemed to take comfort in my words and that got me smiling.

"She's Melissa," I snapped at him.

"Geez, Harry," Carlos said climbing off the couch. "She can answer for herself." Carlos ambled over to where we were standing. I swear, if Mel wasn't with me right now, I would have taught all of these jerks a lesson they won't ever forget.

"So are you like fucking her now?" Carlos asked, eyeing Melissa and then turning his attention to me. I felt my blood boil at the choice of his words. There was no doubt that I normally got laid with girls at parties, but Melissa wasn't that girl. And thinking about it was making me shudder.

"What?" Melissa snapped before I could answer. I could tell the color in her face was drained, the veins in her neck were being seen as she strained to stare at him. "How dare you accuse me of that? You don't even fucking know me," she screamed.

I stared at her in surprise and then in awe as I realized she was standing up for herself. Even Carlos seemed taken aback by her sudden outburst, but recovered quickly enough.

"So sassy," Carlos said, smoothly. "I like it. Harry, this one's a keeper."

"Whatever," I said, angrily as I steered Melissa away from my group of "friends."
