the first time
my heart raced,
in a different tempo

was when i saw
your crown of gold
beneath the rays of Apollo.

it was the first time
my cheeks blossomed
for a boy

it was the first time
i saw boys as anything
other than noise.

my heart had beat
differently
for the first time

i find myself
sketching dragons
just to see you smile.

the second time
my heart raced
in a rhythm that
surprised me

it was for another,
who had graced me
with wonder.

faith, trust and
a little bit of
pixie dust

i was wendy, darling,
and you - my peter pan.

but in our story,
peter left neverland.

the third time
when my heartbeat
changed,
it was familiar

for i had felt it before,
the way it raced
and stirred.

but this time it was
different, for my heart
was weary

yet you had smiled
and said that it was
fine and to not worry.

because i was
a star
and you never
thought to reach
so far.

the fourth time
my heart fluttered
i tampered it down

but you painted me
with your own words
in a poem i still read aloud.

whenever i'm alone
or when the memories
are too loud to suppress

i think about a time
when you said
i was everything you
ever dreamt to have.
