Life Is Better With Pancakes (Short Story)

Plot: A normal morning on the Skeld. Well, as normal as it can get!

"Alright. I look good enough for today, right?"

Player stood in front of his small mirror located in his room. His appearance was exactly the same as always, minus his trademark beanie, which he quickly reached out for. It was missing, causing the victory starved crewmate to get confused. He left it in the same place every night, how could it just be missing now? He didn't share a room with anyone, and last time he checked nobody would want to steal it. OK, maybe Captain.

Not having much of a lead, Player pulled out his old devil horns and strapped them on. It was the only other way of recognising him, after all. He exited his room, almost bumping into a familiar cyan crewmate in the process. "Oh, sorry Mother. I was a bit out of it, huh?" Player apologised, and the female laughed a bit as a response.

"Oh, that's alright! Also I see you've put those old things back on, huh? Feeling daring today?"

"Huh, these horns? It's just that I couldn't find my hat."

Mother laughed a bit more at the comment, gesturing to a small basket in her hands. Although it was buried underneath two top hats and a pair of goggles, the hat was there. "I was just giving these back out to everyone because I washed them. Do you want yours back?" She asked, and Player thought a bit before deciding.

"No thanks. I think I would rather stay 'daring' today! Anyways, I'm heading over to see everyone else. Catch you around!" He replied before walking off. His feet stepping on the metal floor echoed around, as Player kept encountering familiar and friendly faces.

He had passed by Engineer and a very interested Gnome, not really doing much besides from listening to her boyfriend's rambles. Shortly after he walked past Mr. Cheese, and the two performed a half successful moving high five. Everyone else was nowhere to be seen, so Player decided to go to the Cafeteria.

A pleasant scent filled his nose, causing his pace to speed up. Once Player arrived, a even nicer sight awaited him. Everybody was there, and heaps of pancakes were laid out on the table as well as syrup, butter and toppings. A very proud looking Mother was near all of this, and Player didn't even need to ask about if she had done this. A few excited voices piped up on the red Crewmate's arrival.

"Mornin' Player! Gone a bit devilish today, huh?"

"What took you so long buddy? I was specifically waiting for you to come so I could eat."

"Captain, that's really concerning."

As Player walked over to the table, he looked around and saw everyone enjoying the pancakes. BDay and Rose were sort of feeding each other, which Player found both adorable and really mushy, while Gentleman and Mr. Egg were just talking while taking a occasional bite. Captain eventually stood up from his seat, catching everyone's attention.

"Alright guys! Because this day's started incredibly, we won't have any Impostors today! We'll just do our tasks like any and every good Crewmate should."

Nearly everyone was silent with relief, minus Mr Cheese, who cheered despite a lot of pancakes still being in his mouth. Player grabbed a plate and made a neat stack of pancakes, topping it with typical syrup and butter before taking it and sitting next to Captain. Veteran wasn't here, so he surely wouldn't mind.

Let's just say it was one of the best breakfasts they had in a while.
