"Hang in there baby." I sang the last few words of the Good Luck Charlie theme as the show started, just out of habit. I popped a piece of Smart Food into my mouth, gazing at the T.V.
"P.J!" Gabe yelled, or, should I say, Bradley. There was going to be a casting to be Bradley's new crush in the show this weekend, and I was definitely going to try out. He wasn't my big celebrity crush or anything, no, that was One Direction. But he's my age, and definitely good looking. And who wouldn't pass up an acting job to be on one of the most popular shows on Disney Channel?
"Julia!" My mom broke my train of thoughts. "What?!" I yelled back, getting off of my bed to stand at the top of the stairs. "Your dad called and left a message earlier, wanted you to call him back." She left from her position at the bottom of the steps and I groaned.
Shuffling back into my room, I reluctantly picked up the home phone from its stand on my bedside table. I dialed his number, but stared blankly at the digits for five minutes before actually hitting the talk button.
The phone rang into my ear, and all that was going through my head was please don't answer please don't answer please don't answer~
"Hey kiddo!" My dad answered, and I sighed inwardly.
"Hi, Dad." I said, not bothering to make conversation.
"So your mom told me about that audition of yours this week." He said.
"Yeah."
"Well, she said it would be better for me to pick you up and bring you there with her busy schedule and whatnot." He said, water starting to run in the background.
Well, thanks for that, mom.
"Alright." I tried to keep my responses short and to the point so he wouldn't lengthen our call.
"Okay! Well I guess I'll see you Saturday." He said.
"Yup." I said, paying more attention to the T.V than what he was saying.
"Love you." He said hopefully.
And I hung up like I always did when he said that.
I try not to dwell on the thought of my father too much. He left, I cried, that's it, I'm over it. I have much more important stuff to do than to sit and think about every phone call we have, so naturally I shut down the television and headed downstairs.
"Going to Cierra's?" My mom called from the kitchen as I threw my coat on. "Yeah, I'll be back in about three hours." I said as I walked out of the front door.
The chilly December wind nipped at my face, snow leaking into my orange converse. I exited my lawn and started down the street, eyes locked on the house I was going for.
Cierra and I had been best friends since second grade. Once they put her grandma in a nursing home, they decided to buy a new house instead of stay in her grandma's. There was one for sale on my street, and after about three weeks of begging from both her and me her dad and stepmom agreed.
I rang the doorbell and waited patiently for someone to arrive at the door. Cierra greeted me as I stepped inside, taking off my shoes and throwing them on the rug by the door. "Oh my gosh, I am so excited!" Cierra squealed, referring to the auditions. We promised each other that if either of us got the job, we'd take the other one with us.
"We all know you're a better actor than me, so you have a better chance than I do though." She said, and I laughed. "Yeah right. I have major stage fright." She snorted. "You're not gonna be on a stage, are you?" She bickered back.
"Hey, you two. Stop quarreling, its getting annoying." Her stepmom called from the back porch. "Sorry, Dawn." I said, heading downstairs to Cierra's room.
