It's been three weeks since I started my new promotion as a manager. Three weeks since mentoring a brand new prospect fresh out of school. Three weeks since that incredible passionate night with Mike.
Today is Saturday, no work for me so I decided to hang out with Kate, Dani, Rich and Bernard. I did invite Mike to tag along as he has no work at the hospital but I forget he has a big social media presence sometimes.
I never really try and involve myself with it. I remember shortly after we got together, he told me about his Youtube channel, his time on television and the infamous 'Hottest Doctor Alive' articles that were written about him. It didn't bother me, I had no business inserting my feelings about it even if I did have a problem. I've watched him film and I've had conversations with Dan, his cameraman, as well as producers he's worked with. It's something he genuinely enjoys and it makes me smile when he gets all jittery and excited about it all. I just don't think it's something I would particularly like to do myself. He's offered and maybe one day I'll change my mind but for now, I'll continue keeping myself off camera.
Right now, the 5 of us are sitting in a circle in a big open park. The wind was light but it was still nice and sunny, snacks sitting in front of us with kids running around the other bits of the park
"How's your treatment going? Getting far with anything yet?" I asked Kate who was sitting directly next to me.
"I have to inject myself for the next two weeks. It's meant to stimulate my ovaries."
"I can't stand her doing it. I hate needles. The thing is HUGE." Dani intercepted.
"I hate needles too but we do what we need to if it means we get to have a baby." Kate smiled.
"I still can't believe this is happening. It felt like yesterday when you told us for the first time, now you're actually going through with it. By this time next year, there's gonna be a new addition to the group." Bernard chuckled lightly before taking a sip of the water bottle that was by him.
"I'm so proud of you both. This is gonna be an amazing experience." I rested my head on Kate's shoulder where she laid a small kiss on my ear.
"Well, we can't do it without you. You guys are our best friends. We're so grateful to have you all."
"Ditto. This wouldn't be the same without you guys." Dani smiled wide.
To think that I came here without anything really to my name. No friends, no family, no boyfriend or girlfriend. These two women took me in on my first week and we became closer than ever. Now they're progressing on their own life journey and it's almost emotional for me to think about. They deserve it more than anyone in the world.
"I can't wait to..." I began to talk but I started feeling queasy. I lifted my head from Kate's shoulder and I cleared my throat to prevent myself from gagging.
"Everything okay, Cels?" Kate asked, placing her hand on my back.
"Yeah, I... Dunno what came over me." I took a deep breath, starting to feel like my nausea was growing.
"Did you eat anything bad?" Rich asked who was on the other side of me.
"No, no, I felt fine earlier. I..." I turned my head to look over my shoulder and coughed up disgusting bile.
"Okay, who wants to run down to the pharmacy across the road for an electrolyte fix." Rich asked, his hand took the hair out of my face while his other hand rubbed my back.
"We'll go. C'mon." Bernard and Dani got up from the ground and quickly made their way to the chemist not far from here.
"This is weird... I felt like this yesterday morning too..." I sighed, trying to calm myself down before throwing up over my shoulder again so I didn't end up barfing on the blanket and food in front of us.
