False Hope

Harry, Ron, and Hermione were sitting in the common room talking and eating. Harry had just informed them on his and Melody's conversation.

"Harry, did you actually tell her Cedric was alive?" Ron almost choked on his candy from laughter. Hermione glared at him for his reaction.

"I was saying it's a possibility," Harry assured. "I wouldn't just make something like that up."

Ron and Hermione gave each other a look before commenting. "Are you sure it wasn't just a dream, Harry?"

"Think about it; no one saw what happened to his body, including Melody's parents. They paid someone to clean up the body and bury him. So it's not a huge jump to be open to the idea he's alive."

Ron sighed. "Even if what you say is true, what did the girl at the wedding have to do with it?"

"I don't know," he answered. "It doesn't help that Melody has no interest in finding out if he's alive."

"Harry, when he died, she was in her room for weeks crying, she would hardly eat, she wouldn't sleep, and when she did get sleep, she had recurring nightmares. So, Harry, I see why she doesn't want to be open to the idea," said Hermione.

"Was I just not supposed to tell her? I couldn't just lie to her."

"No, you shouldn't have told her. Look, try writing to Quinn, see if she knows anything; if not, move on," Ron said strictly.

"Exactly."

Harry scoffed. "Quinn stopped writing to me after I invited her for the holidays. And then I openly expressed the fact that I don't like her, so I doubt she has any interest in talking to me."

"We'll figure it out. We always do."

"Don't give your hopes up, please. I'd hate for you to believe in this so much and then turn out not to be true," Ron said sincerely.

"I won't." Unexpectedly, Haylee wandered into the common room crying. "Oh my god, what happened?" Harry immediately dashed up from his seat.

"Ginny and I-"

Harry got the hint and engulfed her into a hug. "Do you want to go up to my dorm? We could talk about it."

"Yeah, I would like that."

The two climbed up the steps to the boy's dormitory, leaving Ron and Hermione. Melody walked in moments later. "Hey, have you all seen Harry? I kinda ran off on our date, so I should probably apologize..." said Melody.

"He and Haylee are in his dorm. Ginny and Haylee broke up, so I assume she and Harry wanna be alone."

"Tell him to find me later," she dismissed.

Harry had an extra two hours with Umbridge for detention since he missed the last few. Melody still hadn't seen him all day. She was roaming the castle when she finally saw Harry.

"Harry-"

"Not now, love." He was in a hurry to write to Quinn.

"I just wanted to apologize. That's all."

"Apology accepted. But I'm really in a hurry," he swiftly moved past Melody and continued to the owlery.

Melody shrugged her shoulders. "That was easier than I thought," she said to herself.

Melody and Dean were in the Great Hall eating dinner. Word had spread about Haylee and Ginny's breakup, and Melody was utterly confused. She assumed that maybe Dean knew something about it, and sure enough, he did.
