24. El Tabudo, part two

With Felipe back at the helm, the group finished collecting the miracle root they needed into the priest's satchel. They were ready to leave the lake, just as El Tabudo once again breached the water and charged at Felipe. The white Cadejo stood between Felipe and his attacker, giving him enough time to find a pellet for his small pistol and load it. Skirting around the giant white dog, Felipe took one shot at El Tabudo, making him fall back dead in the water. It seemed as if the drama was all over, but El Tabudo's glowing spirit rose from his body in front of the team, thanking them for releasing his soul from the curse that had kept him by the lake for years.

As El Tabudo's soul entered the afterlife, Felipe and his group made their way back south to San Juanita, miracle roots in tow. However, on the way, the wanderers attracted the attention of more menacing forest demons raring to steal whatever valuables the group had, which in this case were the miracle roots.

As more demons appeared through the grass, Felipe and his team gave chase, riding on the back of the white Cadejo all the way back to town. At the town limits, the white Cadejo stopped for the group to fight off the demons, who dispersed back to the trees after another gunshot from Felipe into the night. As the dust settled on another day, the Kakawira traveller refused an offer of lodging in San Juanita to continue his lifelong journey on the road. Fully restocked by the goodwill of the townspeople, Felipe bid farewell to the traveller as he made his way off onto the horizon.
