aera's eyes fluttered open at the crack of dawn with the excitement of her brother's special day. she sprung out of bed and immediately darted down the hall, her anticipation electrifying the air around her.
bursting into jisung's room, she was met with a sight that caused her to stiff a giggle; her brother lay sprawled across his bed in a comical twist, his feet where his head should be, and vice versa. his arm dangled precariously off the edge, adding to the scene's absurdity.
suppressing her laughter, aera couldn't resist capturing the moment, swiftly snapping a picture before continuing with her plan. she launched herself onto the bed, bouncing up and down like a child on a trampoline, chanting her brother's name with a joyous grin plastered to her face.
caught off guard, jisung jolted awake, nearly falling out of his bed. "what a way to start the day," he grumbled, disoriented from his rude awakening.
aera, still on the bed, leaned in close, her smile widening as she playfully poked his cheek. "are you alive?" she teased, her tone laced with affection. "we can't have your death day and birthday be the same."
annoyed, jisung swatted her hand away, but aera simply chuckled, undeterred by his crankiness. settling beside him, she showered him with birthday greetings, peppering his face with kisses like confetti. "happy birthday, ya li'l nugget," she declared, clearly more excited about this day than jisung would ever be.
with a groan, jisung finally sat up, his tousled hair testament to aera's antics. "you're only one year older, shut up," he grumbled. "besides, if you really loved me, you wouldn't be waking me up at the ass crack of dawn."
aera rolled her eyes, unfazed by jisung's protests. "i know that you're just trying to cover up the fact that you do in fact love and appreciate me," she stated in a matter-of-fact way. "but get ready for school, idiot."

as the siblings stepped out of the car, jisung found himself engulfed in a cacophony of birthday wishes from his friends. aera couldn't help but beam with joy at the sight, her heart swelling with pride as she watched her brother receive the love and attention he deserved, even if he didn't really want it.
however, among the crowd, aera's attention was drawn to jaemin, standing slightly apart from the group. needless to say, her curiosity was piqued and she approached him, questioning his solitude.
"what are you doing all the way over here, silly goose?" she giggled. "not with the crowd?"
jaemin shook his head, his gaze fixed on jisung amidst the noise. "not a fan of big crowds," he admitted. "that's why i come to the coffee shop everyday; it's nice and quiet."
aera's eyes widened in surprise. "that's why i work there!" she exclaimed, struck by the unexpected commonality between them.
jaemin turned to her, a hint of a smile playing on his lips. "you and jisung have a lot of things in common," he remarked with a chuckle.
aera shrugged, acknowledging the truth in his observation. "i don't think he minds crowds that much."
"but he'd choose his peace over the chaos of a crowd any day," jaemin added knowingly.
"true," aera conceded with a nod.
as their conversation trailed off, jaemin suddenly changed the subject of jisung's upcoming party, his question hanging in the air with an air of uncertainty. "are you going to his party tonight?"
jaemin, you're an idiot, he berated himself inwardly, cursing his lack of conversation skills. but he couldn't help but ask, despite knowing the obvious answer.
aera's response was as expected, a simple affirmation tinged with amusement at his inquiry.
of course she would be there. it was a given. he was her brother.
and she wouldn't miss it for the world.
"good," jaemin replied, relieved at her assurance.
