I walk through the door to the room and lock it behind me. One of my security guards is waiting for me outside the door. He stares into space as I stand by him.
"How did you sleep?" He asks, still staring into space.
"Fine." I say simply.
On the other side, where Roman's room is, stand three security guards. I toss my damp hair in a ponytail and wait for him. I guess we wont leave until he comes out. I look at all of the metal knights, sculptures, paintings, and other rich artwork surrounding the halls. This looks like a castle. Im wondering if this used to be one. The door opens and closes down the hall, where Roman's room is. Roman comes out, his hair in his usual bun, and he motions to his security guards to start walking. I walk with my guard in front of Roman. I occasionally turn around to steal glances of him. He just keeps his gaze forward, all business. Maybe I should start employing that attitude. It would serve me well. After we exit the castle-like hallways, I recognize the halls and doors of this section. They're taking us to the cafeteria.
I enter on a different side then Roman, and two minutes earlier than Roman. I guess they don't want people to know that we're associated? Arent we supposed to be leaders? Shouldn't we be associated? I ignore that and order my food. I feel the heated stares of many people in this room. Why is everyone looking at me? I look over and everyone is looking at Roman too. It's not like we look any better than anyone in here. I glance over at a man with red eyes who is staring a whole through me. I get an uneasy feeling and I push my plate away, only half-eaten. I think I want to leave now. I turn my head to my security guard and the next thing I know the man has sat across from me at this table. I feel Roman's eyes tearing a hole through the back of his head.
"Can I help you?" I ask, trying to sound as confident as possible?
He grabs my arm and slams it against the table. Roman stands up and I stare at the man, scared. Im not scared that he will hurt me, Im scared that he wants to hurt me. He looks down at my gloves and scowls at me.
"You aint no leader of mine little girl. I don't know what dick you're sucking to be treated so well, but you better watch your back. Tell your boyfriend the same." He barks at me.
INAPPROPRIATE CONTACT. FIRST WARNING.
He lets go of my hand and stares at me. I stand up and Roman sits back down slowly. I walk over to my security guard, mortified, and we leave, he takes me back to the simulation room.
"You can eat in your room if you feel unsafe." He says.
"What is his problem? Why is he acting like that? If he had any idea what Roman and I went through yesterday he wouldn't be talking to me like that!" I say, fuming.
He stares at the ceiling. "They think you're threats. They know you two are hand-picked and they feel like everyone else is disposable. If they can seem stronger than you, then maybe they can make themselves the new leaders." He explains, non-chalant.
"That's not the way it works." I say, hoping he will agree.
He shrugs. "Its pretty much no rules. No one knows how anything works, they just see the twins taking interest in you two."
"But we were publicly punished!" I yell.
"Lower your voice." He says calmly.
I clench my fists. "They're stupid."
"Well, I would take their threats seriously. You wont be sleeping in that old room for a while, if at all." He says, escorting me into the simulation room and closing the door.
I lay on the seat and the administrator looks at me. She smiles.
"This is the first time you came in here looking better than the last time I saw you." She says, clearly happy about my progress.
