Turning Tides
Chapter 24
Legendary
MK sat looking in the mirror at himself. He had never worn something this nice before. Moreover it was something of Monkey Kings. It was heavy armor, not just any armor. It was the armor he got from the sea king. The very one he got the staff from. He looked around at Wukong who ran a brush through his hair. It was an odd concept, his usual clothing folded up nicely on a chair in the corner. He would leave it there for today, just for today.
There was a light tap on the door. Wukong opened it a crack and let Tyla in, she wore a gofuku. It was an odd thing to see her wearing anything more than her usual tiger skin jacket, black pants, and a shirt under it. But the red and gold silk fit her perfectly.
"Does it look weird?" She asked looking down at herself. MK wanted to say something heartfelt and very Kingly, but that's not what came out.
"Yes, it looks weird, and this feels weird." He pointed to himself. "That looks weird too." He pointed at Wukong who looked down at himself.
"Hey!" He fired back. Tyla giggled looking at MK putting her forehead to his.
"It will, but luckily it's just for a few hours then we can go back to being our odd dressing selves and you and Red Son can go do what people do on honeymoons." She rolled her eyes.
"So...you and Baryl huh?" MK asked looking in the mirror running his hand over his chin. He could see Tylas heavy blush over his head. She cleared her throat and shook her head.
"I have no idea what you're talking about." Tyla said looking down at her feet. MK just chuckled as he watched Wukong sit back down to watch them.
"He's a loner, doesn't belong to our troop." MK said turning back to look at Tyla, this apparently was news to her. "You know you'll lose the protection of our troop if you leave."
"Not the first time it's happened." She mumbled looking down at the ground. It was true. She had left for a few months after Tao was born. "I've grown accustomed to being alone, sleeping on cold stony floors."
"I'm not going to allow that." MK turned and walked up to glare down at Tyla. That caused Tyla's tail to puff. He leaned down to look her in the eyes as closely as he dared.
"Why?" She whispered.
MK turned around with a sigh. "Because he could just come stay." The air caught in Tyla's throat. That wasn't a normal practice for the king. But then again all she's ever known was Wukong and Macaque. Macaque had been kicked out right after her and Raya's birth.
The door opened and closed quickly. Macaque sighed, he was wearing purple and gold. Much to Tyla's amusement. She reached over straightening his collar and ran her fingers over the tiny monkey on his shoulder.
"Mama..." He purred leaning into her touch. He didn't see her near enough. Tyla didn't have the heart to tell him that she wasn't really his mother. Denying him was exactly what caused trauma with herself. So his mother, she would remain.
"Hey there, you both look very nice." Tao had something similar to Macaque just a little shorter.
"Thank you Ma'me." Macaque licked his palm and ran it through his hair. Wiggling his eyebrows at Wukong who barked with laughter.
"Oh haha." He jumped hearing the bang on the door.
"Ten minutes!" The bull guard yelled.
MK looked at his parents and sister. The color drained from his face and he cleared his throat.
"Oh don't you faint now Monkey boy. Stand up straight and take a deep breath." She told him. He took a deep breath and closed his eyes and walked toward the door. The cape whipped around and followed him. The door opened and he walked out.
