Faye's POV

"Hi, mom."

The words came out of my mouth without any gentle touch to it like it used to be and I kinda hesitated before saying hi to my own mother. I don't know what's happening to me, it's like there's this feeling in me that makes me want to prove to her so badly, that I can be just like her.

When it comes to training with Mom, she's always in her kind of Mafia-Queen-badass mode. She shoots a gun like she can do it a hundred times with her eyes closed and when she fights, god knows how she's able to do that even though age is catching up to her but she still has a body that models would die for.

I'm not ready enough when it comes to mom. I still need to step up my game and improve my fighting skills. Even though she was the one that gave me my first missions to handle for the first time, for her, it was a test to find out if I'm good enough. I am good enough, she just need to see that in a different way.

She was sitting outside in the backyard, a glass of red wine was standing on the small table in front of her with her laptop as well. She slowly angled her face to see me and then looked back at her laptop with no expressions on her face.

"Hello, Faye." She replied back with the same tone I had used. I lazily rolled my eyes behind her back and shifted my weight to the other foot.

"I'm here now, so what do you wanna talk about?" She shifted around in her chair to look back at me properly and her eyes narrowed to slits while she take in my appearance.

I was still wearing the same clothes I wore to school today and the way she looked at me from top to bottom made me uneasy.

My mother has always disapproved with many small mistakes I have ever made but the look of disapproval she has on her face now while scanning me from head to toe was different.

But so what? I'm me now, and she can't stop me from living my own life.

"What are you wearing?" I scoffed.

"What does it look like I'm wearing?" I shot back with an attitude.

I have never spoke back to my mother this way before, and I think I must have crossed a line when that sentence left my lips. She stood up from her chair and glared at me.

"Watch your tone. If I asked you something, then you reply politely, understood?" I remained silent.

"Do. You. Understand?" Her chair scrapped back when she fully turned to face me.

"Yeah, I got it. Geez." I crossed my arms over my chest and looked away.

She closed her laptop and placed it under her arm and held up her wine glass as well before looking back at me again.

"Do you have plans tonight?" She asked gently.

"Why? Is there another mission for me?" She shot me a warning look and I mumbled back a 'sorry' before giving her a proper answer.

"Yes I'm going out with Kaycee and some other girls from school tonight." She nods her head briefly.

"Where?"

"To go clubbing." She frowned.

"Excuse me?"

"We're going to a club tonight, mom."

"It's a school night." She stated, matter of fact and I shrugged my shoulder.

"So?"

"So? You're still 17, you're underage to go clubbing." Her voice picked up a notch catching some of the attention of the gardeners trimming the hedges nearby.
