"Lucius..." a faint voice whispered. "Lucius?" the same voice sang. Lucius shut his eyes tightly as the sun glared harshly toward him.

"Did you fall asleep on the couch?" Ed threw himself next to his friend, snickering at the state he was in, but Lucius didn't flinch. He covered his face with his hands as he tried to process the events of the night before, groaning and mumbling incoherently.

"Are you alright?" Ed asked. He noted how dull Lucius looked and how sunken his eyes had become.

Lucius sat in silence, staring ahead. He stretched his tense muscles that were stiff by his terrible position during the night.

"It's over, Ed..." he mumbled.

Eddie shot his friend a puzzled look, "What do you mean?" he asked.

"She hates me..." Lucius choked on the words like venom had seeped down his throat. Fleeting moments of her yelling at him and shutting him down replayed in his mind, and he bit down on his lips to hold himself together.

"She said it to my face..." he began.

"Narcissa?" Ed asked.

Lucius nodded, smiling to mask the pain he was enduring.

Eddie felt sorry for him. He knew the kind of man Lucius was. He knew how lucky the girl he loved would be to have him, how he would spoil and care for and protect her, and how he would be ready to give her the world. It was unfortunate that Narcissa did not see that.

"It's her loss, Lucius; I think it's about time we closed that chapter. You are a great guy, and it's a shame she can't see that..." Ed consoled him.

Lucius remained silent. That hurt the most; he thought he was a great guy, especially for Narcissa. He thought about how he would make her the happiest girl in the world, and watching all that shatter before his eyes made him miserable.

"Come on; we still have time for a spot of breakfast; let's get you all sorted." Ed picked up Lucius' arm to get him off the sofa, but Lucius groaned and anchored himself down.

"I am not in the mood, Ed.."

"Oh come on, you still have Heather..." Ed tried to entice him, but Lucius cringed.

"Merlin, don't remind me...I don't want to bother with her anymore. I sort of want to be alone for now..." Lucius sunk deeper into the sofa.

"You can't be this way because some girl rejected you! You are Lucius Malfoy; now get yourself together, man!" Ed forcefully towed him off the couch and pushed him toward the dorms.

"You are going to take an ice-cold shower to shake yourself out of this, and you will remember who you are..." He continued pushing him toward the bathroom.

"But she is not just some girl..." Lucius moaned.

Ed sighed and shook his head, "I know, I know...It will all get better, believe me! Now, get in there..." he said before shoving his friend into the bathroom and shutting the door.

"I will be waiting for you! You don't want me getting hungry for too long.." Ed called from behind the wooden door.

Lucius exhaled deeply. He caught a glimpse of himself in the mirror and how tired his eyes looked. He let his hair down, stepped out of his clothes, and into the shower. "Ice cold water..." he mumbled.

"In November, yeah, right, what a psychopath..." he complained about Ed as he turned on the faucet, adjusting the heat until the water nearly scalded his skin. Steam filled the bathroom, and mist formed on the mirror. Lucius stood under the running water for a while, contemplating until a set of knocks disrupted his train of thought.
