That was the 57th time his experiment had been unsuccessful. What animals hadn't he tried? From frogs to ducks and even rabbits... but no, all of them had to die in a matter of hours. What made him think those sensitive little hamsters could survive his operation?
He looks around his english classroom distastefully.
Maybe, he needed to experiment on his own kind...
A shiver suddenly crawls up his back as he recalls the ominous incident almost five years ago. The desire for revenge still swells up in his heart whenever he thinks of that man. That abominable thing that made him the way he is today.
The sound of the bell signifying the end of school finally greets his ear as he picks up his bag forcefully and walks over to the park right across the school.
A few feet back, a petite, slender figure, with raven hair watches him through her admiring, green eyes.
It was in her eleventh grade biology class, an year ago, that she had first noticed him. He had seemed a strange boy to her, sitting quietly reading his book with that eyepatch and all. At first, she had ignored his presence. But then, for some reason, she started having dreams about him. Not just any dreams though. Really explicit ones.
A blush creeps on her face as she recalls her fantasy.
In the beginning, she was shocked and disgusted with her self. How could she dream something so sick about someone whom she hadn't even talked to?
It took her three months to figure out why.
She was in love with the eypatch boy- Daemon.
She didn't know whether it was his nonchalant attitude, the fact that he never smiled, or the mystery behind that eyepatch that had attracted her to him. But from the day she had realized her love for him, she followed him everyday, after school. She wanted to know everything about him.
She wanted to be... a part of his life.

At a safe distance from behind the tree, her infatuated eyes regard the boy sitting casually on a bench, beside the pond, with admiration. They turn a deep green as the pupils in them dilate.
So dark and mysterious. That attitude reflected in his dressing style. Loose jeans that gathered a few layers on the ankle he wore, almost like the color of midnight. Whereas, covering his thin, firm chest and broad shoulders was again a black, v-neck shirt.
Many lustful and curious eyes of girls were trained on him from time to time at school.
"I know he is not the most hottest or nicest guy in school but damn... something about his reserved attitude is just so sexy. "
However, none of them took the courage to personally approach him.
"What with that 'I-m-going-to-kill-you" scowl plastered across his face! No thanks."
And Scarlett was glad they didn't. Also, it helped that he almost never paid any attention to his surroundings due to being engrossed in his own thoughts.
Focusing back to the present, she wondered, 'Will I ever get the chance to talk to him?'
And as if to make her wish come true, her vision snaps back into reality as she focuses on the figure suddenly standing in front of her.
His hands hanging loosely off to the side and an analytical look on his sharp, textured face, her heart skips a beat.
That strong and chiseled jawline was clearly visible on his smooth, angular countenance as Daemon looked at her strangely with only his right eye.
'I hope he didn't see me staring at him!'
"H -hi," her voice cracks as she averts her eyes in embarrassment.
The sound of footsteps motioning away from her suddenly awakens her trance. He was leaving.
'No!' she shouts in her mind.
And at that moment, she felt the need to confess her feelings. Her heart couldn't bear the feeling of watching the person she loved, walk away. Emotions went wild inside her head as she debated whether to pursue him or stay back.
It has been too long. Scarlett knew she couldn't hold in her yearning for him any longer.
Finally, gathering all of her courage, she blurts loudly, "Daemon-I-love-you!"
For a second, it seemed like the world around her had stopped revolving. The birds had stopped chirping and the wind had become calm. Silence filled the place as she anticipates his reaction.
She waits, her breathing getting heavier and faster, as he slowly turns around.
"What?" he whispers with an eyebrow raised.
Her heart feels as if it's about to explode and that she will collapse any minute from a heart attack.
Gulping, she thinks. 'Now or never.'
Turning her back, she nervously confides, "Yes, it's true that I love you... I've had ever since I first saw you."
Taking a deep breath, she continues "Daemon, you are the first guy that had me feel what's it's like falling in love. I.. I would do anything for you.
Facing him again she utters, "anything."
Lowering her gaze, she quietly prays, "please, accept me."
Daemon, on the other hand, who was quite surprised by the sudden change of events wonders to himself,
Anything, huh?
"Would you give up one of your eyeballs for me?" he asks as if it was the most natural thing to say.
However, before she could process his words, a ringing cellphone interrupts her thoughts. She looks at the caller ID.
Great timing mom...
"Where are you Scarlett?" her mother's voice booms through the phone.
"Umm... at the park," she states.
"You do have the house keys with you right?"
"Yeah," she confirms having no idea where this conversation was heading.
"Well, your dad and I have to go visit your grandmother. Her tumor has worsened... and I can't take you with me since I don't know how long we will be staying... besides, you can't miss your studies."
"Mom.. tell grandma I love her," Scarlett whispers in a concerned tone.
"Don't worry dear, I will. Please take care. If you want, you can stay at a friend's house and I have also left some money on the kitchen counter incase. I'll be off now."
"Thanks mom. Bye.." she mumbles sadly and switches off her phone.
Still standing in front of her, Daemon was staring off into space, as if in deep thought.
Scarlett suddenly recalls, he was telling her something before her mom called.
"Sorry about that Daemon. What were you saying before?" she questions still down by the news of her grandmother and a little nervous for his reply.
After a moment, he replies "Do you want to come over to my house?"
All her sorrow disappears as she comprehends what Daemon had just said.
He wanted her to come over to his house! She jumps in glee inside her mind.
OMG! Did this mean he liked her too?
Getting a hold of herself before she got too excited, Scarlett answers with a smile.
"Sure!"
