Scarlet
I hugged Ethan again tightly. "I love you. Is Leah here?"
He looked away for a second before responding. "Yeah, she'll be out here in a few. She needed a minute."
I nodded, I understood completely. This directly involved her sister. I didn't want to act like my problems were more serious than what Kelsey was going through. She was pregnant and the father walked away to be with another woman. Said woman being me. I have no clue how she's feeling and I know she'll need Leah more than ever now.
"Leah made tacos, hope you're hungry," Ethan said, rubbing his hands together.
"It smells delicious," I replied.
Just as we were sitting down at the table, the front door opened. My breath caught when Jordan appeared in the doorway. Tears stung my eyes and I walked over to him.
"I-I'm so sorry. I never wanted to..." I shook my head. "lie to you. I thought I was protecting Chase's friendship with you and Ethan. I'm sorry."
A small smile spread on his face as he picked me up and squeezed. "I know, sis. I'm sorry for being a dick. Let's get some food."
Dinner was going well, conversation had pretty much stayed within work, how I was doing in school, and Jordan talked some about Noah. Apparently they were getting pretty serious. He really liked her and they had been together pretty much every day since they met.
Chase cleared his throat, looking incredibly pale. "I know that I fucked up by not telling you guys about" he gestured between him and I, "all this. About me and Scarlet. I was a being a pussy. I didn't wanna lose either of you or your parents. My job. It all seemed out of reach but then knowing she felt how I did... I want you both to know that I love your sister."
I looked over and met his eyes. His beautiful, baby blue eyes. "You really love me?"
"Scarlet, I couldn't love you more."
My heart hammered away in my chest as I replayed his words over and over again in my head. I smiled so big that my cheeks hurt. Everybody was looking at me to respond and right as I opened my mouth to say those three magical words, I got interrupted.
"Isn't that sweet? You get love and my sister gets what? A broken heart and a one way ticket to being a single mom?" Leah's angry voice broke the silence.
"Hey, babe. Come sit with us." Ethan patted the seat beside him.
"I'd rather stand." She gave him a death glare. "I cannot believe you two. I understand that you had little crushes on each other back in the day but to cheat on my sister and then leave her after she tells you she's pregnant? What the hell is wrong with you Chase?"
"Leah, I never meant to hurt her," he said simply.
He didn't owe her an explanation but I understand why she wanted one. This was a very sensitive subject and unless he got back together with Kelsey, nobody could win.
"And you." She looked right at me, disgust written all over her face. "You are so damn lucky that you are Ethan's sister, his prize possession." She rolled her eyes. "Otherwise, I would kick your ass right out of my house."
"Whoa, babe. Let's calm down, okay?" Ethan stood up, walking toward her.
"I'm not going to calm down! I came out here to be civil but then I walk in and he's confessing his love to her? Is this a joke to you all?"
With a shaky voice, I spoke. "It's not a joke and I feel absolutely awful—"
"Save it. I don't need to hear a word from you." She turned around and walked outside.
