Scarlet
"I think it's time to get out of bed, Scar," Grace said, opening up the curtains in my room.
"I don't wanna," I whined, pulling the covers over my head.
"I know but let's try to be actual humans today, okay? When is the last time you ate something?"
I shrugged but I knew exactly the last time I had eaten. Christmas night at my parents house.
Grace came home the day after everything happened and I couldn't have been more thankful for her. She's taken care of my puppy and me the last three days and I don't think I could have made it through this without her.
My phone started vibrating on the nightstand and Grace came around the bed and picked it up.
"Can you stop calling her?"
She rolled her eyes as she listened to the words Chase was saying. I could hear his deep voice through the phone and my heart started to ache all over again.
"Listen, she needs you to leave her alone. Stop fucking calling or I'll have Jordan beat your ass again," she hissed and hung up the phone.
"I'm blocking his number for you. Nobody wants to talk to his cheating ass."
"What would I do without you?" I smiled.
"You won't have to find out. I wish I would have been here..." she squeezed her hands into fists. "I would have beat his ass after your brother did."
"I still can't wrap my mind around why he would do that. We had a little fight, Grace. Something so stupid and I thought he just needed to cool off. I shouldn't have let him leave my house... I should have told him about getting coffee with Aaron."
"Are you really blaming yourself? What the hell, Scar. This is not your fault. He's a serial cheater. He cheated on her and then on you. It's what he fucking does. There was nothing you could have done."
I nodded in agreement and pushed the covers back. "Let's go shopping or something. Mom gave me a hefty gift card for Christmas."
"That's my girl!"
We walked into the mall and decided the food court would be our first stop. Grace ordered loaded fries for us from our favorite place and as she was paying my eyes went wide. She had a shiny, beautiful ring on that finger. The special finger.
I grabbed her hand and squealed. "What is this!?"
Her smile took up her entire face. "Jeff asked me to marry him on Christmas morning."
I jumped up and down before pulling her in for the biggest hug. My heart was screaming in happiness for her but my face frowned as I realized she had came home right after Jordan called.
"Grace... why are you here? You should be with Jeff celebrating."
"This is exactly why I didn't tell you. I wanted to be here for you, okay? He understands, babe. He'll be back tomorrow and besides, I needed some girl time with my maid-of-honor."
Another loud and embarrassing noise came from my mouth as I hugged her again.
She giggled before pulling away to grab our fries from the cashier. I took in the beauty of the princess cut diamond on her skinny finger and smiled again. She deserved this. Jeff was a lucky guy.
