Lily's POV

A teenager wearing dark clothing stepped off the elevator and entered the office. "This is the shrimp you're pairing me with?" He said to Ozpin.

"Shrimp?" I repeated with a small frown. "Ian Hyde, thank you for joining us." Ozpin greeted. "No problem. So, this is her?" Ian said.

"Yes. Lily Rose, this is Ian Hyde. He'll be your partner." Glynda explained. "Partner?! HE'S going to be my partner?!" I repeated. to us.

"I am. Which makes me the boss of you, Shrimp." Ian clarified while tugging my Grimm hood over my eyes.

I adjusted my hood so I could see properly. "And who says you're the boss of me?" I said with a frown. "Me. Since I'm older, taller, and clearly smarter than you," Ian smirked.

I frowned again. His eyes went from me to Shadow. "Whoa! What the hell is a Grimm doing here, Professor?!"

"This is Shadow. Don't worry, he's nice. To some people." I said. Now it was my turn to smirk. "Oz, you didn't tell me she had a Beowolf for a pet!" Ian said.

"Oh, don't be such a baby. Shadow's good." I claimed. "Yeah, right." He denied.

"Professor, my new partner's kind of a jerk," I informed. "Can't you give me someone else? Anybody? Just not this guy. I mean, do I have to be paired with his guy?"

"Hey, you're no picnic either. You think I want to babysit you all the time?" Ian said. "Then, why are you doing this?" I asked while crossing my arms over my chest.

"Because I owe the professor a favor. You should be grateful that I'm your partner and some weirdo isn't."

"Funny, I'm looking at one right now."

Ian frowned at me and I frowned back. "Come on, you two. Why not just take this time to get to know each other?" Ozpin suggested.

"Yeah, right!" I said. "Oh, relax, will ya? I'm not gonna bully you or anything." Ian stated. "I find that very hard to believe." I replied.

"Here. This is the key to your new dorm. Please try and get along." Professor said. After handing me the key, I went to the room that was assigned to us.

Shadow sniffed around before sitting beside one of the beds. "I can't believe you have that thing for a pet. What surprises me even more is that it hasn't eaten you yet." Ian mentioned.

"Because Shadow's not like the others," I stated. "So, you're a student at Beacon?"

"No, I graduated two years ago," He answered. "I came back because I owed Oz a favor."

"Oh. So, why kind of weapon do you have?" I asked. "You'll find out sooner or later," He replied. "Your sister. She's Ruby Rose, Right?"

"Yep. And Yang Xiao Long." I added.

"Right. You look just like Ruby. Are you guys-"

"Twins? Yes," I answered for him. "But I'm the youngest in our family, slightly shorter, and I don't wear a red hood. Instead, I wear a Grimm hood. And I don't wield a weapon. And I haven't unlocked my semblance. And-"

"Got it. Message received, Shrimp." Ian interrupted me. "It's Lily." I corrected him. "So how many people know about your pet here?" He asked.

"Just Team RWBY, Professor Ozpin, Professor Goodwitch, you, and that's about it. Oh, yeah. Are my sisters back yet? They've been in that theater for a while."

"They're not in the theater anymore. All first year students were assigned their first mission. They won't be back for a while."

"What's a while?"

"I dunno, a week?"

"A week?!"

"Ow! That was right in my ear! Yeah, a week. So what?"

"I came all the way from Patch just to see them, and they're gonna be gone for a week?!"

"It's not that bad, Lily. They'll be back before you know it."

"I hope so,"

I sat beside Shadow and pouted. Sensing my disappointment, Shadow nuzzled my face in attempt to reassure me.

"Hey, since you know a little bit about me, how about I know a little bit about you?" I suggested. "Guess there's no harm in that," Ian said.

He sat on the twin bed on the other side of the room and leaned back. "So, what do you wanna know? Hobbies? Likes? Dislikes?"

"Well, tell me about where you grew up." I said. "I grew up in Vacuo, an only child, and isolated myself most of my life by reading books and listening to music." Ian explained.

"That sounds lonely." I mentioned.

"You'd think, but I found it natural. Besides, I hated my nosy neighbors and they're obnoxious gossip. Though half of it wasn't that bad," He replied, making me giggle. "Wanna hear a few of them? It could help pass the time."

"I don't see why not." I agreed. Ian nodded and began telling the old gossips he'd often hear in his neighborhood.
