You're Safe Now

Lily was puffing and ready to collapse by the time she read the door. The bell had just run for lunch and Lily walked through avoiding eye contact. She twisted her clock and pulled her locker open. Her eyes scanned the halls for James, no sign of him phew she thought to herself. A group of jocks ran past and pushed Lily into the lockers. Her shoulder hit the cold metal and she bit her lip in pain. "Lily?" Crap! Lily screamed silently. Lily turned around and tried to fake a smile at James and closing her locker. "Are you going to tell me where you were?" James asked trying to meet her eyes. "What do you mean?" Lily questioned innocently. James' face dropped Lily could see the annoyance growing on James' face. Lily kept walking and James grabbed her shoulder. She screamed out of pain and fear and she whipped her head around ready to defend herself. James' face was white. "Lily I'm- I'm so sorry" Everyone had stopped talking and started starring, they pointed and laughed calling her a freak. Lily ran as tears flew down her face, she could hear James screaming out behind her but he wasn't going to catch her. Lily locked the cubicle door and sat on the toilet and hugged her nears to her chest letting the tears flow down her face like a river. Lily got out her food and ate it quietly. 

The bell rang for fourth period, but Lily was too scared to move. She was the laughing stock of the school now and everyone was going to be talking about her embarrassing moment in the hallway. Lily waited awhile till everyone would have gone to class and she opened the door. The hall was empty except for one person. James was leaning against her locker and looked up at her. Lily backed away slowly and James started coming towards her. "No please! Please I'm sorry I was late please please don't hurt me" Lily burst into tears and fell to her knees. She kept trying to suck in air, but it was like her lungs had exploded. "Lily shhh, it's okay I'm not going to hurt you, shhh" James said kneeling next to Lily and taking her hand. Lily's hand instantly felt warm from his touch, he had soft hands and they made her feel safe. "Deep breathes Lil, in and out" James said demonstrating his breathing. Lily followed James' breathing patterns and her breath came back to her. Lily felt James' arms slowly go around her shoulders and she leaned into his chest. She grabbed his collar trying to reassure herself he was still with her. James helped Lily up and let her lean all of her weight on him. "I'm going to take you home with me okay? We will get you cleaned up and get some meat on those bones" Lily nodded unsure, but it was better than going back home to Mark. James walked Lily to his car and helped her get in. He drove off and Lily stared out the window silent. James stopped outside a big blue house. "This is me, my mum will be home sorry, but she can help fix your shoulder she's a nurse" Lily nodded she knew this was a bad idea, but James was the only person she trusted. 

His house smelt so warm and refreshing. Lily could smell food cooking rather than the stench of alcohol. "Mum, this is my good friend Lily she will be staying with us tonight" James' mum walked through. She looked about the same age as my mum was, but she had dark shoulder length hair that went to her shoulder and kind blue eyes. "Hi Lily, I'm James' mum call me Susan" She smiled warmly. "Thank you for having me over Susan" Lily smiled warmly. "Dinner will be ready in about half an hour so you can show Lily around if you want James" Susan offered. "Will do" James said taking my hand. I felt my stomach drop. Every time he touched me I felt like I was in heaven. He lead me around the house showing me all the rooms than me took me upstairs. "The bathroom is the first door on the right. You can have a shower if you want" James offered. "I don't have clothes" Lily said looking down at her shoes. "You can borrow my sisters, she won't care" James said knocking on a door, music was blasting on the other side. "What do you want?!" A voice yelled from the other side. "Taylor please open the door" James asked. The music went off, the door clicked and Taylor stood on the other side. "Yeah?" Taylor said rolling her eyes at James than moving her eyes to me. "Hey I know you, you're Lily right?" Taylor asked me. I nodded silently. "Hi I'm Taylor, this losers sister" Taylor said nudging James. "Can Lily please borrow some clothes?" James asked. "Oh yeah sure one sec, are trackies okay?" Taylor asked searching her closet. Lily looked at James and nodded. "Yeah that's fine thanks Tay" James replied. Taylor handed Lily a pair of trackies and a t-shirt. "Thank you" Lily said. "That's alright enjoy" Taylor said winking and closing her door turning her music back up. James grabbed a towel out of the closet and sat them on the bench in the bathroom. "Shampoo and conditioner are there and there is soap on the left" "Thank you". "I'm going to go help Mum with dinner come down when you are finished no rush" James smiled leaving the bathroom. Lily turned the water on and let it flow down her back. What had she done? She thought to herself.
