A/N thanks for 10k on Hey there, George and 150k on Bruises!! love you guys<3 sorry for the slow updates as well:( im probably not going to update often so don't wait up on the story!
Karl and Sap never got to meet Clay in real life, but the way George talked about him; it was all they needed to know. His smile was bright while his teeth were glowing in the sun light as they walked together. His eyes lit up at any mention of the blond. He was just so happy.
It made the pair even happier than they were, because George deserved all of the happiness in the world and more. The short brunette did EVERYTHING in his power to make the world a better place, so when he finally got that happiness he deserved?
Karl and Sapnap were ecstatic for him.
But, when opportunities come along, it can shatter people. Bonds that were once thought to be tied together forever, broken.
That's what happened to Clay and George. An opportunity came along, and they both reached so far that their rope that connected their love together snapped.
It broke George... it changed him. Now that happiness, that light that was inside of him, it's gone. All that's left is complete and utter darkness.
Karl and Sapnap, seeing as their best friend, their brother, faded and changed into this numb human being... it stung both of their hearts. Knowing that George would never be that same bubbly boy he once was hurt so badly.
But, all three of them had to learn to move on from their old bonds and had to learn how to be happy again. They hoped they could be happy again.
But, hope doesn't get people very far.
Not when the unthinkable happens.
_____________
It was audition time--well, it was 15 minutes past the time they had set up the audition for--yet the short brunette was still not at the parking garage. They assumed he was asleep, considering that in George's free time all he did was, in fact, go to sleep.
"Try calling him again," Sapnap suggested to Karl as his fingers typed away at his phone's keyboard, trying to reach George through messages.
"I have tried that five thousand times you nimrod," Karl scoffed as he pressed the green icon which had a white phone drawn into it. The phone rang and rang until the voicemail--that Karl had now memorized by heart--spoke throughout his ears.
"Well, maybe we should just start the auditions without him-," Karl began to talk before getting interrupted by the slightly shorter male named Sapnap.
"He's the lead singer dude. We can't just make decisions without him," Sap sighed in frustration as he clicked his phone off and rubbed his fingers on his temples, trying to cool down.
The two boys sat down at the white, plastic table they had set up and tried messaging George a couple more times before finally settling on starting the auditions without their lead singer.
Karl walked off to get the first person to audition. Shockingly, the line was bigger than expected--considering the expected amount was two people--and held around eight to ten people who were ready to play the guitar in hopes of getting a spot in the band.
The first person was a boy named Aiden who seemed to be around the age of 17. He had dark, curly hair which sat on his head perfectly, the curls bouncing around with the wind. He had a pretty lanky-built body and wore a plain black t-shirt and grey sweats. He just looked like an average teenager, hoping for an opportunity to be the lead guitarist in a band. He wanted to make his shot, and he wanted to make it count.
It didn't exactly--how do I put this--make it, though...
As his fingers strummed the strings, they seemed to be out of tune, so the whole sound appeared to be watched and just... off. The strings didn't sing the perfect tune like they were supposed to, Aiden seemed too... serious for a role in their band, and he just wasn't the right match.
Once Aiden finished his wretched performance, Karl gave Sapnap a look, almost sympathetic, and then twisted his head once more to face the boy named Aiden.
"Look Aiden, you are very... talented. We just think that maybe you should audition for another band? We both just think the band's lead singer and you wouldn't have much... chemistry I guess," Karl explained as nicely as possible.
Aiden just sighed and looked down in response, slowly nodding as his eyes seemed to get glazed over by tears. Both of the boys felt bad, but there was no way that he was the right one.
Yet, finding the right lead guitarist seemed to be easier said than done.
Audition after audition, failure after failure. Some people were talented but didn't fit in with the boys, and others were vice versa. They just couldn't find anyone as good as Alex used to be.
They grabbed the second to last boy in hopes of receiving a blessing, a gifted guitarist. George still hadn't arrived, so the burden of making the cuts were all on Karl and Sapnap.
The boy was around the same age as the three members of the band. He had very dirty blond hair, just the slightest bit wavy. His eyes were an emerald green, almost like an evergreen tree; they were mesmerizing. He wore a plain black hoodie and ripped jeans, but his shoes didn't quite... match his outfit.
The way he looked didn't matter though. All that mattered was his talent and his vibe.
"Hi! I'm Karl and this is Sapnap, if you didn't know," Karl said, pointing to the brunette next to him.
"Hi! I go by Dream because like, I hate my real name to be honest it kinda sucks. Like, who the fuck names their kid after an object like Clay?" Dream joked, causing a light laughter to float around the room. Karl and Sap were too busy laughing to realize what Dream's actual name was.
"Show us what you got, Dream!" Sapnap said as he pointed his finger towards the guitar in his hands. It was a lime green exterior that was filled with a white interior.
Dream suddenly breathed and strummed the fingers over his guitar; he was a natural.
The strings were perfectly in tune and Dream just moved his fingers across them like magic, sending shivers down both of the other boys' spines. He matched their vibe, he was gifted in guitar; he was perfect for the spot.
But they didn't know about his past, and they weren't going to find out yet.
Soon enough, though.
Soon enough.
