TW swearing, yelling, brief panic attack
"We need to talk, Clay."
The words rang through clays ears, making his heart race with anxiety. George saying that infamous, cliche line of 'we need to talk'. It made him a nervous wreck, but he would need to face his fears eventually.
Even if it led to disaster.
Karl and Sapnap were shocked at the sudden suggestion from George, but they left to give the two boys their privacy. They were just hoping that the band wouldn't break down over this; the band is the one thing keeping George from falling apart.
"Yes?" Dream asked hesitantly, not wanting to disturb the peace and quiet.
"I just wanted to tell you that..." George paused, leaving the taller boy to wander around his own thoughts.
"Your guitar wasn't perfectly in tune, so if-" George stated before being cut off by his ex.
"What?"
"I said your guitar-," George began, before getting cut off again.
"I know you said my guitar. I'll fix that another time but is that seriously all you wanted to talk about? Are you kidding?" Dream scoffed.
"Oh yeah. I also wanted to know if you were down with-," George paused, leaving a sprinkle of hope in Clay's chest. The blond was down for anything George wanted to do, especially if it got the brunette out of his funk.
"Maybe doing some vocals. I know you main guitar but-,"
"Are you fucking kidding me?" Dream huffed, leaving the other teenager confused.
George's eyebrows cocked in confusion, yet his lips stayed in the same, straight line he always had on. What else would he be talking about?
"So, the only reason you came here was to talk about my fucking talent?"
"Duh. What else would I be talking about?" George sarcastically responded, causing Dream to roll his eyes in annoyance.
"Oh I don't know, maybe the fact that you have been the biggest bitch in the world since I have joined the band?" Clay remarked causing George's lips to part in shock.
"I"MMM the bitch? Me? Are you joking?" The brunette scoffed, causing Clay to cross his hands over his chest; they were both dead serious, and it was scary.
"We had EVERYTHING! We were living the fucking dream and YOU. LEFT. BECAUSE OF A FUCKING RECORD DEAL! You don't even understand how DEVASTATED I was because you left me alone to self-pity and sit in my own damn sorrow until I couldn't fucking feel anymore. You made me numb, Dream and...," George continued to ramble, yet Clay only focused on one, simple word.
Numb.
The blond felt his heart shatter at that very moment inside of him. He left for an opportunity of a lifetime; he never meant to hurt George that way. He just wanted to live his dream, but instead of living his dream, he left it. Clay didn't know at the time, but now he does.
George was his dream all along.
"Are you even listening to me right now?" George asked, his tone laced with frustration and anger.
"I- I'm sorry," Dream whispered to himself under his breath, praying George didn't hear.
But, of course, he did.
"What?" The shorter boy's voice softened, his hands unraveling from the fists that were formed during the ramble of his feelings.
"I'm sorry. I am so sorry for everything I have put you through, I'm sorry that I was an asshole, I'm sorry for leaving and I am so fucking sorry I left you numb. I never meant to hurt you, but I wanted to follow my dream. You know how excited I was about that record deal... well, before I turned into a dick. The thing that I didn't know at the time, though, was that I wasn't following my dream by accepting the record deal,"
The tension in the air was thick, and the silence was loud. If a pin dropped to the parking garage floor, everyone could have probably heard it.
"I was leaving it. You were my dream, George. You still are my dream," Clay confessed, leaving George stunned. What just happened?
I- I can't-," George stuttered, feeling his breath hitch. He could feel a panic attack brewing below the surface in his stomach.
"I can't do this," George managed to get out before sprinting out of the parking garage past Karl and Sapnap. He heard the yells of his name and a car engine revving up, but he couldn't care less right now. He needed an escape, and quickly.
The brunette turned a corner down an alley, praying to god Karl and Sapnap didn't see him turn that way. Luckily for him, the car drove past at a record speed. He felt his phone vibrating in his pocket, but he couldn't be bothered to answer. His breath was rapidly falling and hitching, and he felt as if his throat was closing up. His hands were shaking, and his knees felt weak.
George finally collapsed to the floor, sliding down the rough, brick wall of the building next to him. The thing, though, was that he wasn't even crying; all of his tears were used up already.
Had he heard that correctly? Dream thought George, the stone-cold, numb bitch, was his dream? Was this a dream?
George pinched himself and tightly closed his eyes, praying that he would wake up in his comfortable sheets. He was hoping, begging, praying that this was just a really, really, lucid dream.
It wasn't a dream, unfortunately.
George opened his eyes to the same valley he had just ran to, a sigh escaping his lips as realization dawned on him. Dream was still in love with him.
There was one more question looming in the air, though.
Was George still in love with Clay?
