Chapter 5
Shaynah
I woke to wet kisses to the side of my face. I knew that tongue well. I opened one eye and quickly closed it when I saw that tongue coming for me again.
"Ah Dookie."
I patted his head as I stretched. What time was it anyway? All I wanted to do was lay in the bed but I figured I should get up. I had not done any work today. The least I could do was go through all of my client files and medical records, make sure that everything was organized and up to date.
"That's enough Dookie." I pushed him away gently. Reminding myself to feed him a milkbone made of mint. His breath was something horrific.
When I crawled out of the bed the first thing I did was pick up my phone. It read 10:00pm. I could have sworn it was later. I had no missed called.
It was then that I heard Davis's voice "And I ain't coming back tonight." I grinned. Suddenly I felt wide awake and very chipper. I needed some fresh air. I had been cooped up in the house for a couple days and I knew that Dookie was suffering because of it.
"How about a walk boy?" He of course seemed to get excited. I never walked him at night. I had always wanted to but Davis never let me. Even when I suggested that he come with me. After all he was the one worried about something happening to me.
Thinking on it now, I'm not sure that was the truth. He just did not want to spend any time with me. Going for an evening stroll was just too much for him to handle.
By the time I got myself ready it was almost 10:30pm. Okay..so I have passed the evening part and will venture out for a night walk with Dookie. He would be happy regardless. I could have let him loose in the backyard but I wanted to move.
Besides it would be fun right? To do something that I never did. I was oddly excited about this simple walk. So much so that I rushed out of the house, leaving my phone on the counter. I had nothing on me but my house keys and Dookie's leash, which he was attached to.
It was calming to walk at night. The breeze was lovely. Everything looked so pretty and romantic. There was not much traffic also. I got lost in my thoughts as we strolled the neighborhood.
I stopped every now and then, letting Dookie do what he needed to do, or just to examine something that he deemed interesting. A few minutes later the stopped. I felt the resistance on the leash. I sighed. Did he give up on me again? I looked behind me and there he was in all his glory. On his back, legs up playing possum.
"Come On Dookie! You can't be that tired baby!" I rolled his fat ass onto his belly. He just looked at me,blinking.
"No more treats for you!" I hissed.
