Chapter 2

 Shaynah

I had just put the food on the table when Davis came and sat down, saying nothing.  I had already checked my phone at least fifteen times.  I was waiting to see if Erica texted me again.  I did not have the balls to text her and ask her where to meet her exactly.

I wasn't even sure if I wanted to go out.  Even if a part of me did, I did not want to have to deal with Davis.  I placed his napkin onto his lap just like he liked.  Making sure that he was all set before I sat down.  My food often got cold as I tended to his wants and needs.

Pepper or salt.  Hotsauce... a refill.  You name it I was on it.  Did I mention that I was also his personal waitress and butler rolled all into one?

I had just sat down when he asked me for a spoon.  "What do you need a spoon for Davis?"

"My rice what else.  I swear you stupid Shaynah."

"I'm not stupid."  I glared at him as I got up to get his spoon.

"Is there anything else?"  I stood next to the table, looking at my plate of food with longing.

"Naw."

Finally.  I can eat.  I pushed my to cool food around on my plate.  Dookie was to the left of me, begging silently.  He knew that I would drop him a treat or two.  I broke off a small hunk of my porkchop, letting it drop to the floor.

"Why you do that shit Shaynah?

I fucking hate the fact that you feed that mutt at the table."

He slammed his fist onto the table.  Causing the dinnerware to shake.  I rolled my eyes and continued to push my food around.  My appetite now gone.

"Fuck outta here dog!"  The whole table jerked as he kicked his long legs out, trying to kick Dookie but only succeeding in kicking the leg of my chair.

Dookie scampered away whimpering.  "Don't do that Davis!  There is no reason for you to always be so mean to him.  He did not do a damn thing to you."

He pointed his spoon at me.  "One day I might just kill his little ass."

He was always threatening to hurt my dog.  I half believed that he would.  Davis did have anger issues.  We fought all the time.  So far I have not been hurt to bad.  I mean it's not like he hit,hit me.  Still... I was concerned for my dogs safely.  Probably more than my own.

I remember a story he told me once about a stray cat.  He and his friends were out by the water and they saw a stray cat.  For fun they coaxed it over to them and then for no reason, lifted it by its tail, spinning the poor creature around and then flinging it out into the water.
