My eyes fluttered open when I heard Jack's screams. She was just having a nightmare. Thank God, I thought. She was wrestling around the bed so I got up and tried to wake her up before she awoke Damon. "Mom, it's okay. It was just a nightmare," I say, shaking her gently.
She kept screaming and wrestling around. "Jacquenline Maria Sloane! Wake up! It's just a dream," I raise my voice at her. Her eyes open and before I can dodge out of the way, Jack punches me in the face; hard.
I move away from her, holding my face. She sits up and looks around. She sees me holding my face and she frowns. "What happened?," she asks, softly. "You punched me," I say and then wince because of the pain it causes when I move my face.
"I'm sorry. Are you okay?," she asks, looking very concerned. "I was electrocuted before. I think I'll be fine," I said with a little more annoyance and attitude than I really wanted. But it did hurt. Not just physically but emotionally. I know it was an accident but she didn't remember who it was until she punched me.
I looked back at Jack. It was a sad frown on her face and then a tear slid down her cheek while more came. Now I felt bad. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said it like that. I'm just on edge with dad's death. I know you are too. I don't want to say anything wrong here so I'm sorry," I said, moving over to her.
I moved my hand from my eye. She looked at me and burst out laughing. "What? That was a sincere apology. I meant it," I say, confused.
"No. I know that but your eye. It looks like you put too much mascara and eyeshadow on one and the other doesn't. Haha," Jack laughed. "Mom!," I raise my voice at her and then start laughing.
