I closed my eyes again hoping for death, but did not come.I opened my eyes again. This time I felt, more than saw that I was laying face down on the ground. My vision darkened as I heard sirens and saw the blurry outline of an ambulance. Then I blacked out.

When I woke up I was lying shirtless in a bland, white bed. Above me were the faces of doctors, who seemed to be very intrigued by my waking up. One of them started to speak in a loud, slow voice.

“ Can you hear me?” she asked me with a concerned look on her face.

“ Yes. I’m fine.” I said in an exasperated voice. As soon as I spoke one of the doctors wrote something down on her clipboard. They all looked at me in weird sorts of ways. I must be missing something, I thought. Then I remembered that I had tried to kill myself earlier. It all seemed slightly vague. I remembered falling off, and then somehow stopping in midair a few inches off the ground long enough so that when I finished my decent I survived.

My mind was jolted back to reality when one of the doctors started to speak to another.

“ But this is impossible! How could he have survived with nothing but a small bruise on his chest?” She sounded incredulous even thought she was whispering. Not remembering getting a bruise on my chest, I looked underneath my shirt to be greeted by a small bruise near my heart.

From my odd perspective though, it looked like some sort of wing, though I could not put a finger on what kind. It didn’t look like a bird wing, but then what else could it be? I thought hard for a few minutes then after coming up with no solution as to what the wing shape could mean, I got my mind on to more pressing problems.

The doctors had gone away to ‘analyze their data’. I doubted they would come up with any results. I somehow needed to get out of the hospital. I then did the most logical thing to do. I got up out of my bed and walked towards the lobby. On the way out I picked up a hospital gown so that I would not look like an utter weirdo with no shirt. One of the nurses stopped in her tracks when she saw me and said something about not going out of your rooms but I just kept walking. I had a smile on my face, probably because of medication that I didn’t need.

My mind was starting to become quite fuzzy from the drugs that they had given me. I didn’t even realize it when I walked into my mother’s flat and passed out.

When I woke up, my little sister’s huge afraid eyes were looking into mine.
