Nova's POV:
I rushed into the hospital, with Allegra and Holden trailing behind me. I get to the reception desk, and immediately ask for my mom.
"Miss, she's in the operating theatre still at the moment. You can wait with the others outside the room, it's on third floor, first door on the left. Room 302," the receptionist said.
"Room 302!" I call out to Allegra and Holden. We all get to the elevator and while we wait I just think of everything that can be wrong. Oh god, she was just okay earlier. I can't lose her, I think to myself as tears begin the brim my eyes. I just lost Dad, I can't lose my mom too.
"She'll be okay," Allegra says, as she tries to calm me down, noticing the tears in my eyes.
I just nod and run out the elevator once we get to the floor.
"What happened?! Is she okay?!" I asked frantically to Noah and Atticus.
"Rose and I were in the kitchen talking, as she was doing the dishes. Once she was putting one in the cupboard, she just stopped talking and fell. I called out to Noah and he called an ambulance," Atticus explained.
"Oh my god," I said to myself as the tears began to fall.
"Are any of you related to the patient?" The doctor said, as she came out of the room.
"Yes, I'm her daughter," I say quickly, "What happened?"
"Your mother had a stroke. Her blood pressure was extremely high and collapsed due to it. Has she been sick or stressed lately?" The doctor said.
"Um both," I say, "She had a fever a couple days ago and she's been stressed due to all the bills lately."
The doctor nods and says, "That would explain it. Your mom is okay but we have to keep her for a couple weeks. You'll be able to see her in a couple hours, she's sleeping now," the doctor said.
I sigh as the doctor goes back into the room and Atticus and Noah go down to the cafeteria to get us food, as we wait. I plop myself down to a chair and breakdown.
"Nova, it'll be okay," Holden said, trying to comfort me.
"No it won't! I'm a horrible daughter!" I sob.
"No you aren't!" Allegra said.
"Yes I am! I didn't even realize that Mom was getting sick and more stressed! All I was doing was having fun when I should've been working more! What kind of daughter am I, if I can't even help my mom out when times are tough?" I continue sobbing.
"Nova, I know I haven't known you very long but you are one of the hardest workers I know. You work multiple jobs just to help your mom out and you put others in front of yourself," Holden says, as he pulls me into a hug.
"I can't lose her! I just got used to Dad not being here anymore! I won't be able to take it if I lose Mom!" I sobbed.
"You won't lose her," Alli and Holden continue saying, as he holds me tight as I continue crying on his shoulder.
~~~~~~
In a couple hours, I stopped my crying and fell asleep on Holden's shoulder. Soon I felt a gentle shaking and woke up.
"Sorry for falling asleep on your shoulder," I said to him sheepishly.
"It's alright. I just wanted to tell you that Allegra had to go close up her dad's shop and will be back soon, and Noah and Dad had to went home to get us actual dinner. The doctor also said you're able to go visit your mom now," Holden says to me.
"Thank you Holden," I say, as I stand up.
"For what?" He says.
"Everything. Driving us here, letting me vent, and letting me sleep on your shoulder," I say, as I give him a smile.
"No problem," he says, as I go to enter my mom's room.
Once I entered the room, I see the IVs and machines attached to my mom and the rhythmic beeping.
"Mom..." I said, as my voice broke.
"Don't cry sweetie. I'm okay, I promise," she said.
"Why didn't you tell me you were getting sick?" I ask.
"You were finally happy and having fun. I couldn't ruin that for you. If I told you, you would've stopped putting yourself first for once," she said.
"Mom, I don't care if I have to stop having fun to take care of you. I'd rather have you healthy and fine instead of you being sick at the expense of my happiness," I say.
"I don't want this life for you Nova. I don't want you to have to worry about bills and taking care of me. I shouldn't have to need your help to pay bills and such," Momma says.
I sigh, "Please don't scare me like that ever again. I love you Momma."
"I love you too baby," Momma said to me, as I give her a hug from her bed.
~~~
Once I leave her room, Atticus, Noah, and Allegra came back.
"How is she?" Noah asked.
"She's getting better. Um Atticus, may I speak to you privately?" I say.
Once Atticus and I were away from the others, he asked me what this was about.
"I don't think my mom can continue working for you guys anymore. It wasn't you guys or the job at all. It's just better for her health," I say to him.
"I completely understand. I'll pay her for this weeks work and severance as well," He says.
"You don't have to Atticus-," I begin to say.
"No I insist," he says, "If you ever need help with anything, don't hesitate to ask."
"Actually Atticus, there is something," I say.
"Anything. Just name it," he says.
"I'd like to fill in my moms spot. I'm able to cook and clean and I have references if you-," I say until I get cut off.
"You're hired," he says.
I give him a hug and say thank you so much.
"It's the least I could do," he says.
