Nova's POV:
It's been a couple days since I broke down at the park with Holden. I've definitely been better since then but not my usual kind of better. I sigh, as I look at myself in the mirror. My eyes had dark bags under them and I looked so drained. I was barely getting any sleep, trying to handle three jobs at once. I was finally able to pay off Dad's old medical bills so that was a pro of working three jobs. But now I had Mom's bills to think about. I sighed I was getting my first paycheck from the Scott's today, so that would definitely help.
I got out of bed, took a shower, and got dressed. I picked out a simple teal dress and headed out.
Unfortunately today was one of my extra busy days. I had shifts everywhere. I sighed as I was going to pick up my bike, but I realized I didn't get enough sleep to be able to bike anywhere so I decided to walk. Once I got to the Scott house I began to make breakfast but I couldn't help but feel a bit woozy.
Once breakfast was finished, I cleared the plates and was heading to the dish washer to place them in, as Holden and I were talking with each other. I placed the plates on the table as I could feel myself lose my balance.
"Nova, are you ok?" Holden asked, concerned.
I nodded, as I began walking to the dishwasher again but I suddenly fell and everything went black. The last thing I could hear was Holden calling out my name.
Holden's POV:
Once minute I was talking to Nova, the next minute I see her falling. Luckily I catches her before she could hit the ground, but the plates weren't so lucky. They fell to the floor as I called out Nova's name. My father and Noah had come downstairs once they heard the commotion and asked what's wrong. I ignored them for a second, trying to see if she still had a pulse. I layer my fingers on her skin and once I could feel the pulse, I let out a sigh in relief.
"Call the doctor," I said as I carried her upstairs and laid her down in my room. The doctor arrived in about 5 minutes and I explained to her what happened. She checked on Nova and said, "She's fine. She passed out due to slight malnourishment, dehydration, and exhaustion."
"Oh my god," my dad said. I couldn't help but feel for Nova. She was working herself to the bone, trying to take care of everyone beside herself.
"She'll need to get some sleep, eat, and drink lots of water. I would recommend having her on bed rest for a couple days," the doctor said before she leaves. I called Alli to let her know what happened and she told me not to let Nova leave and that she'd be here in 5.
Soon I saw Nova waking up a bit. "What happened?" She asked as she tried to get up.
"Lie back down," I say, "You passed out. Have you been eating Nova? Or even drinking any water?"
"I've eaten a granola bar yesterday and I... I don't really remember when i drank water. It's been a couple busy days," she said.
"The doctor said you passed out due to slight malnourishment, dehydration and exhaustion," I said.
"I'm sorry Holden, but I don't have time for this," she said as she looked over to the clock, "I have a shift at the bookstore in 20 minutes."
"You can't go to work," I say straight to the point.
"I have to Holden. I need the money," she says.
"I'm sorry Nova but it's better this way. The doctor said you have to be on bed rest for a couple days, eat a proper meal, and get some rest. I want you to stay here for a couple days so I can make sure you're actually listening to the doctor," I say.
As Nova was about to interrupt, Alli walked in.
"Are you crazy Nova?!" She said, "Why aren't you eating and getting rest?"
"I have been eating-," Nova tries to interject.
"A proper meal? When was the last time you had a proper meal?!" She asks.
Nova sighs and says, "It's been a couple of days. It hasn't been that bad."
Alli sighs, looks over to me and says, "Can you give us a minute Holden?"
I nod as I leave the room closing the door.
Allegra's POV:
After Holden leaves, I go over to bed and sit down.
"Nova..." I begin to say.
"You have no idea how upset I am with you. Why are you working yourself to the bone again? We both know this isn't the first time and this time I'm gonna stop you before it's too late," I say.
"Alli..." Nova begins to say.
"No! Don't 'Alli' me! It wasn't your fault last time and it's not your fault this time either!" I say.
"But it was my fault Alli! Dad was dying and we didn't have enough money to keep him longer!" She began crying, "Last time I couldn't even help Dad afford life support! I know he accepted it was his time but he didn't even get to fight because we couldn't afford it!"
"Nova, that wasn't your fault. That was that imbecile of a drunk driver's fault. Not yours. Your mom isn't dying, Nova. She's not dying. You can't get those two events confused. Your dad's one was life and death but your mom; your mom is better now. She's not dying, hon," I say.
"It's not just that Alli. It's getting bad. The bills won't stop coming and I don't know how I'm going to manage it all," she says.
"We'll get through it, one step at a time. I'm going to help you out and I don't care what you say. This isn't an option anymore. You will not pay me back for what I'm helping you out with, at all," I say to her in my matter-of-fact voice so she knows I'm being serious.
"He wants me to stay here," Nova says quietly.
"Repeat please," I say.
"Holden. The doctor said I need bed rest and to eat, so Holden said he wants me to stay here for a couple days so he can make sure I actually do get rest and eat."
"I agree with him, hon. It's better this way," I say, "Plus you'll have time to get closer with lover boy," I say, winking at her to lighten the mood.
She smiles, throws a pillow at me, and says, "Shut uppp!"
Nova's POV:
After Alli left, I told Holden that I would stay here and Alli would be bringing my stuff in a bit. I guess I'm spending a few days in the Scott house.
