"What the fudge" Temi swore as she looked for her phone that was not so graciously blaring her ringtone. It was 3:15 in the morning and she knew the only person that could call her at this time was her best friend Aviyaa. And true to her words it was her wild best friend calling. "Aviyaa what the fudge, I thought you usually waited till 5 to call". Aviyaa was a party animal, at 22 she had been to more parties than Temi could count, and Temi was always the one to pick her drunken friend from these parties, not that she minded of course (note the sarcasm) but Temi had established a rule, Aviyaa had to wait till 5 before she could call because at that time, Temi was usually awake.
"Uhhm, can you come and pick me up from Jide's place, I wanted to wait till 5 but I'm afraid I'll do something stupid," Aviyaa said sobbing. In their 12 years of friendship, Temi had only seen Viyaa cry thrice and those were times when it was related to her family, she instantly stood up knowing that whatever had made Viyaa cry was very serious. "Viyaa don't do anything I won't do, I'll be there in fifteen minutes"
She quickly changed her clothes and got her keys, making sure to lock the door to their two-bedroom college apartment, she hoped Viyaa hadn't gotten herself into more trouble than she could bargain for. She got to the house and turned off her car, not wanting any unnecessary attention, it was quiet, way too quiet for a university party and it was now she thought to herself that maybe she should've called their neighbor Niyi for backup, but she quickly dismissed the thought knowing that he was probably at this party too.
She stepped over a couple who probably thought they were in a bedroom and not outside and shuddered, this is why alcohol shouldn't be allowed she thought to herself, she didn't know where to look for her friend and decided to call her, hopefully, she had not passed out. She didn't have to look long as she heard the ringtone she hated so much, she couldn't help but smile to herself, the only reason Aviyaa kept that ringtone was that she hated it and it annoyed her, Viyaa made sure to listen to the whole song of the ringtone just so she could annoy her; that girl and her antics. She saw their neighbor Niyi before she saw Viyaa and with the way Viyaa was crying, she knew something was more than wrong, she never really trusted that guy.
With a newfound determination, she marched up to them "What the hell did you do to her" She asked with anger dripping from her voice, if he could make her cry that hard, he had definitely done something horrendous. "Calm down tiger, I didn't do anything. I just found her here after it happened", now that just increased Temi's curiosity; what the hell was 'it'. "I'll leave you two to catch up, mind you, she's not in the best emotional state so be careful with her." and with that, he left, but he didn't venture far knowing that it might not be safe to leave two girls on their own.
She wanted to strangle him, she was her best friend, and she knew most about her changing emotional states who did he think he was then telling her to be careful??? was she going to kill her best friend, but she kept that all to herself because right now her friend needed her so with this she just gave him a stiff nod. "Oh sweetheart, how are you feeling? You don't have to tell me anything now, we can just cry together for a while and I brought Mentos the assorted fruit type in case you started craving them"
It was times like this that Aviyaa was glad Temi was her best friend, she always knew how to cheer her up but the events of the night came barreling back to her and a fresh new batch of tears started welling up, she couldn't stop them "Please just pass the Mentos" Aviyaa always ate when she was stressed, sad, angry or depressed and her go-to candy was Mentos so this was somehow a relief to her. The girls both cried together till Viyaa fell asleep, Temi knew she could not carry her home alone and she was somewhat happy that Niyi stayed. He seemed to get the memo and helped carry her to Temi's car, he then followed them home as an escort and even carried Viyaa to her bed.
He wished Temi a good night and went to his apartment. Temi tucked Aviyaa properly and wondered which kind of shit she had gotten into now. She prayed her night prayers for herself and Aviyaa and laid down to sleep hoping they could sort whatever had happened tomorrow.
