Third person POV

It has been two weeks since Hinata's birthday and the sudden confession from the orange-haired boy. The two had decided to take things slow for both of them to figure out their true feelings. It didn't mean they stopped hanging out, they still went on their scheduled dinners together, and of course, Lexy played beach volleyball with him when she had the chance.

Hinata worked hard for both his job and training, never forgetting why he came to Rio in the first place. But every time he saw Lexy, his heart would always skip a beat without fail.

It didn't take long for him to admit that he was really in love with her and that his feelings were true. He needed to find a way and the perfect timing to let her know how he truly felt again.

While for Lexy, she had gone back into competitive surfing. With summer rolling along, the annual surf competition that she used to join with her father started as well. Every day after school, she'd make a beeline to the beach and go straight for the waves.

Her friends all called her a surfing beast, nicknaming her the queen of the waves for achieving three first places back to back. This would be the first year without her father watching, and she hoped to clinch first place again for him.

Hinata would often catch a glimpse of her carving up those waves when cycling around delivering food and watch her glide across the water surface with her chestnut brown hair high in a ponytail. Seeing her was like pushing a reset button and recharging the energy he had lost in the day.

He'd feel even more motivated for evening training and night practice. Of course, Lexy was studying as well, making it a habit to at least fit in an hour to read her notes.

It was a Friday evening, and Hinata had just ended his afternoon training. He and Lexy agreed to meet at Carlos's bar for dinner, and he was the first to arrive while Lexy was still finishing up her practice.

"I heard about your bold move two weeks back. I'm more surprised at the fact that she didn't jump at the chance to be with you. Did she ever tell you how crazy she is about you?" Carlos slid a cup of orange juice to him.

Hinata's face flushed red at Carlos's sudden question. "S-she mentioned she noticed me since the start but not about the crazy part," he fidgeted with the cup in his hands, happy with that piece of news. "You really like her, don't you? Because if you're just playing around with her and gonna leave her in two years, I swear I'm gonna kill you," Carlos turned serious and caused Hinata to squeak in terror. "I- I would never! I'm serious about Lexy! I like her as much as I like volleyball!" Hinata couldn't believe himself.

There really was a day where something or someone else mattered more or equal to volleyball. He must be crazy - crazy in love.

"That's quite comforting to hear. Well then, you should know that her birthday is in two days. Just giving you a little heads up," Carlos said and turned around to attend to other customers. Hinata's mind started to churn again; Two days?

Her birthday was so close to mine! 10th of July, huh, what should I get? Flowers? Cake? They all seem so cheesy, but they're all ways of showing how real my feelings are for her, right?

"Hey!" Lexy's voice rang out, cutting him short of his thoughts. Hinata smiled and sighed dreamily as she sat down across from him, looking as radiant as ever. She settled her board behind them, and she looked over at him, wondering the same thing.

Pretty sure the two of them just stared at each other for a good ten seconds before Carlos cleared his throat to take the order. So, the two enjoyed their meal like any other day.
