Race day!!
I got up and got dressed with some elements of papaya to represent the team, I chose a white short sleeved top and some baggy black jeans, I put some orange jewelry on including a handmade orange ring I made as a child, I had an orange bag that was perfect and I put everything I needed in there before leaving. I like leaving early on race day to watch people arrive and see the excitement on their faces, I enjoyed people watching and guessing what sort of person they were so I sat outside the hospitality area with a cigarette just analysing who these people might be. I had a pair of sunglasses on because the weather was really nice for England, it was expected to get quite warm so I was ready for a good race.
It was getting closer to lights out and I was just eating some food when I overheard some conversations about strategies, they said they were going to use the mediums for most of the race and I was shaking my head, it is known that the mediums don't last here so I chose to intervene
"I just overheard your conversation and from previous years it's been proven that the mediums don't work like mediums here and because the track is very front left wearing I think you need to use the softs or hards, maybe a 2 stop because Daniel is starting on the softs, when he pits put hards on and then pit him again for the softs near the end" I said with a smile and turned around not waiting for a response.
The cars were lining up on the grid and I was in Lando's side of the garage waiting for lights out, This is an amazing track and I think any decent result here would be something to be proud of. The red lights were off just as quickly as they came on and away they went, the roar of the cars as they went past the garages.
Lap 22 Daniel pitted and went from the soft tyres to the hard tyres, I smiled a bit to myself and then 2 laps later Lando pitted from his mediums to hards as well. A few laps after Lando pitted he had to retire the car because of a brake problem making it unsafe for him to drive. Daniel went on to finish 3rd on the softs, they listened to my strategy and it worked, I was chuffed with that to be honest but Lando was a bit pissed off like I'm sure anyone would be retiring from their home grand prix.
Daniel did his shoey and ended up convincing race winner Charles to do it as well, I will never understand how they can drink from a sweaty race boot, makes me feel sick just thinking about it. I stayed around a bit longer than most in the garage, someone let me be in charge of the music whilst they packed up, I played some absolute bangers everyone was singing and dancing at one point, the Redbull guys filmed the whole thing and posted it on their social media, they tagged me as they found out I was in charge of music and captioned it
'Never seen so many people in orange dance like this, thanks izziebewldey_'
I replied with
'It's papaya ;)'
I gained even more followers and now I had over 10k followers on instagram and twitter. It was the best way to end the race weekend even if we only had 1 driver finish the race, and one of the mechanics was 200 pounds down.
