Sam followed Bucky out and ignited his wings to fly.
At full speed, the super-soldier hopped onto the back of the first truck. He took off the latch and swung open the right door to slip inside. Looking around at the massive crates, he noticed the signs that read in bold KEEP FROZEN and VACCINE TRANSPORT with the GRC logo underneath.
"They're stealing medicine," he spoke through his earpiece, "vaccines."
A head popped out from hiding at the sound of his voice—a girl appearing no older than her late teens looking shy and unsure. Once she was spotted and eye contact was made, she slipped back behind the crate larger than her height. The action was smooth and slow, almost like she wanted him to confirm he caught her.
He knew he had to be friendly and patient with the hostage. He didn't know what kind of state she could be in mentally, physically, or emotionally.
Letting a simple word be his first, he decided to go with: "Hi."
That single word was enough to pull her away from the darkness of her hiding spot to be in full view of the light.
"Bucky, talk to me," Sam spoke through coms. "What's goin' on?"
He turned around to mutter an answer, "Found the hostage." He brought his attention back to her. "You okay?"
She didn't answer.
Slowly, she began to smile, no longer feeling shy as her lips curled into a toothy grin, appearing genuine.
Seeing that brought a gentle smile to his face. He felt relieved at the thought she was happy to be rescued.
His smile immediately vanished when the unthinkable happened: he was kicked so hard that he flew back into the front of the second truck, cracking the windshield.
"Shit!"
The mistaken hostage put on a black matte mask with a glossy red handprint on it, easily appearing as blood.
He was pulled up by two people wearing the same face coverings, the handprints not being identical to give it uniqueness.
Effortlessly, the mistaken hostage leaped onto the second truck. As he was held back by her two team members, she took the opportunity to throw a powerful punch. The sound of his grunt made her aware he felt her all too familiar strength despite looking to lack the muscles.
A mechanical sound could be heard from the sky, leaving her to turn to see Redwing approaching. Automatically, the drone started shooting at them.
The Flag Smasher thought quickly by leaping into the air and swiftly grabbing onto it. Using her thigh, she slammed the device against it, cleanly breaking it in half.
"I've always wanted to do that," Bucky announced, clearly disappointed it wasn't him to do the job. Opening his mouth resulted in him getting sucker-punched, the others not amused.
From the side of the road, Maria came running at full speed. Not having the advantages of a super-soldier didn't stop her from being her athletic best as she kept a steady pace, the heels of her boots not slowing her down either.
Sam was not far in the air. He easily spotted her, her red making her stand out from the grey road. "Arms up!" he warned after flying down before grabbing onto her.
She released a short breath of air at being lifted from the ground. She watched the road move underneath her feet, a new experience she debated whether to enjoy.
