"Hey! Jessica, wait up!"

I turned around to see Isaac running up to me, a smile plastered on his face.

"Are you always this cheerful?" I questioned once he had stopped beside me.

"Most of the time." He shrugged, "Anyways, today's day one. I want to take you somewhere."

"You want to take me somewhere?" I repeated, "As in like willingly spend time with me?"

He rolled his eyes, "Yes. Now let's go."

"Can I go change first?" I questioned, looking down at the sweatshirt and sweatpants that I was currently wearing. I hadn't changed before I went shopping this morning, so I was still in the clothes that I had slept in. "I look like shit."

"You look fine." He argued and I glared at him, "But if you really want to, I guess you can change."

"Good. Wait here." I quickly made my way to my apartment. We were already on the floor I live on, so it didn't take me long to get there.

I quickly changed my sweatpants out for a pair of jeans and pulled my sweatshirt off, putting on a plain white T-shirt with a hoodie over top, since it was still a little cold out.

It was the middle of April, so it was starting to warm up, but it rained a lot.

I brushed my brown hair, deciding to leave it down in its natural waves because I didn't know what else to do with it. And to top everything off, I used a shit ton of concealer to cover the bags under my eyes.

I never wore much makeup, mainly because I didn't have enough money to buy it. It was a wonder that I could afford this apartment, but I was glad that I could.

"Took you long enough." Isaac grinned when I returned to him.

I rolled my eyes at him for the umpteen time since we had met. "Shut up."

"Let's go." He smiled, starting to walk down the hall to the elevator.

We stepped in together and he pressed the button to the ground floor before leaning against the wall next to me.

I cleared my throat, "Why were you on the roof last night?"

"I like to go up there to clear my head. Or just when I'm bored." He answered. "It's beautiful at night."

"Do you live in this building?" I questioned. It seemed like he did, but I hadn't seen him around before—that might just be because I barely ever leave my apartment though.

"Yeah. I live on the same floor as you, actually." He replied. "I've seen you around, but I've never said anything. You always seemed like you either wanted to murder someone or were about to burst into tears."

I nodded chewing on my bottom lip. Did I really look like that all the time? I thought I was pretty good at hiding my emotions...

"What are you thinking about?" Isaac hummed.

"Nothing." I brushed it off, just as we had reached the ground floor and the elevator doors slid open.

We walked through the lobby and walked out the doors.

"Where are we going?" I questioned, turning to face Isaac.

"On a walk." He responded.

"A walk?" I raised an eyebrow at him and he nodded.

"Yes. My favorite part of life is nature, so what other way to experience it than a walk?" He explained. "There's this one trail I like to take in the park. It starts there and goes through the woods for a little before coming back out."

I stayed silent, only nodding as I walked down the sidewalk next to him. I let my eyes scan around, taking in my surroundings.

It really was beautiful. The trees were covered in green leaves and birds were chirping, the sun shining down on us.

It had been a while since I went outside without having a reason to. I never really took the time to appreciate how beautiful everything was.

The sound of our footsteps fell in rhythm with each other's and I looked down at the sidewalk below us.

It was worn from people walking on it so much, but it was still there. It was still hanging on.

Kind of like me, I thought to myself before holding back a laugh when I realized I just compared myself to a sidewalk.

"You okay?" Isaac asked, bumping his shoulder into mine.

I hummed in question, looking up at him before his words processed through my brain, "Oh, yeah. I'm fine. Just . . . distracted, I guess."

"Well, we're at the park." He said, "The trail is over here."

I saw a dirt trail over to the side and we began to walk down it, our footsteps falling in sync again.

Isaac's arm bumped against mine and I looked up at him to see him grinning at me. A small smile appeared on my lips and I looked away, letting my eyes linger on the trees in front of us.

We had just entered the woods where the trees formed a canopy over our heads. It was the middle of the day, so you could see sunlight peeking through the layers of leaves and branches. The branches swayed in the slight wind, blowing my hair lightly.

Isaac chuckled, reaching over and brushing a strand of hair from my forehead. A blush spread onto my face and I looked down at the ground, biting onto my bottom lip.

"You're cute when you blush." He commented.

My face flushed even more, "Thank you."

"Look."

I looked over to where his hand was pointing, seeing a small pond in an opening between the trees.

My eyes drifted around the scene, taking everything in. There were rocks surrounding the pond and lily pads floating on top of the water. I saw a few frogs jumping around and a small smile formed on my face.

We walked over to the side of the pond, sitting down next to each other on one of the larger rocks.

"Reason number one," Isaac started, bringing my attention to him. "Nature."

Another smile formed on my lips as I looked at him. I seemed to be smiling a lot more since I had met him.
