I opened my eyes, being met with the harsh sunlight streaming in from the window in my bedroom. I groaned, covering my eyes and rolling over to check the time on my phone.
10:36 am.
I had been getting up earlier the past few days because Isaac always came over. My body had adjusted to getting up earlier, so now I was never able to sleep past 11 without waking up.
I had felt more motivated during the day since I started getting up early and it was easier to fall asleep at night because I had been awake for longer, but it was weird.
I sat up, stretching my arms above my head and letting my blankets pool at my waist. Even when it was warmer out, I was never able to sleep without a blanket covering my whole body, so if I sweat to death in the middle of the night, then oh well.
My apartment was silent besides the quiet hum of the heating system. I could hear people talking in the apartments next to me, but it was muffled and barely audible.
I stood up from my bed and made my way to the bathroom. I caught my reflection in the mirror and sighed. I looked better than I had about a week and a half ago, but I still looked like shit.
I had started taking better care of myself and my physical appearance, mainly because Isaac made me leave my apartment nearly everyday, but also because I had more motivation to actually care about it.
I quickly used the bathroom, washing my hands. I brushed my teeth before leaving the bathroom and going back to my room so that I could change.
I figured Isaac would be getting here soon and I wanted to be ready in case he wanted to go somewhere.
I looked through my closet, planning to wear a T-shirt and hoodie with jeans like I usually did. That was what most of my closet consisted of because it was one of the only things I liked to wear that would cover my wrists, other than flannels and sweatpants.
I quickly changed and brushed my hair before looking at myself in the mirror I had in my room. The bags under my eyes had faded a lot since I had been getting more sleep, so I didn't bother to cover them with concealer.
I heard a knock on the door and left my room to open it, letting Isaac in. He smiled at me, walking into my apartment.
"Hey," He said as I shut the door behind me.
"Hi." I offered him a smile. "Are we going anywhere today?"
"Not unless you want to." He replied, shrugging his shoulders.
"Then I guess we're staying here."
"My friend is finally moved into his apartment." He announced, sitting down on the couch.
"That's nice." I replied.
"He's starting his spring semester in about a week and said that he wanted to be closer to campus."
"What does he study?" I asked curiously.
"Some biology bullshit."
I rolled my eyes, "Biology isn't bullshit."
"I almost failed that class, so therefore, it is."
"I wanted to go to college for biology." I said.
"Why didn't you?" He questioned.
I snorted, "Does it look like I could afford college? My grades were shit too so there was no way I was getting a scholarship."
"Oh . . ." He trailed off.
Great. I just made things awkward. Way to go, dumbass.
"Well, you can always go in a few years when you have the money." He suggested.
I shrugged, "I don't know. And I'd rather not be a freshman in college when I'm twenty-one."
"Why not?" He questioned, "A lot of people do it."
I just shrugged again. I doubted I would have money for college in three years anyways.
"Do you want kids?" He asked.
I looked over at him, "Yeah. Only one though. What about you?"
"I do want kids, but I don't really care about how many." He said. "I'll take as many as my girlfriend or wife wants."
His statement made me smile. Isaac was such a nice person, especially in contrast to me.
How the hell did we even get along? Usually I would end up being annoyed by someone who was always this happy and bright. I was in the beginning, but after a few days, it hadn't really bothered me.
"What are you smiling about?" Isaac asked, pulling me out of my thoughts.
My face flushed when I realized I had been standing there, just smiling.
"Oh, um- it was nothing." I tried to brush it off.
"Come on." He pressed, "You barely smile. I want to know what's making that beautiful smile of yours show itself."
My face flushed more when I heard him call my smile beautiful.
Did he really think that?
"I was just thinking about our friendship." I muttered. "I usually would have gotten annoyed by someone as happy as you are all the time."
He smiled brightly, leaning over to me. "I feel honored."
I rolled my eyes, putting my hand on his chest and pushing him away.
I could feel his heart beating under my hand and I noticed that it was beating faster than normal. Well-faster than how fast I assumed his heart usually beat.
My hand stayed on his chest for a few more seconds before I quickly pulled it away.
Did I really just do that? God, I'm such an idiot.
"Do you have anything else you wanna do in the future?" Isaac asked as if nothing had just happened. Maybe nothing actually happened and I was just overreacting. Maybe he didn't notice how my hand stayed on his chest for just a little longer than necessary.
"I've always wanted to travel somewhere." I said.
"Where?"
I shrugged, "I don't really care. Preferably out of the country though."
He nodded, biting down on his lip. "That could be the ninth reason."
"What? Traveling?" I furrowed my eyebrows.
"No. The future." He clarified. "You have so much that you want to do in the future. You'll never be able to do it if you don't stay."
I guess he had a point . . .
"Okay, so reason number nine is the future?" I said, a questioning tone in my voice.
"Yup." He confirmed.
