"What's the plan for today?" I asked, looking over at Isaac.
"I don't really know." He shrugged, "We can go for a drive."
That was kinda weird . . . He usually already had a plan for the day and forced me out of the house or something.
Maybe he had finally realized that I'm not worth it.
No.
He wouldn't do that. After what he had told me yesterday, I knew that he wouldn't. But even knowing that he wouldn't do that, part of me couldn't help but think it.
"To where?" I questioned.
"Anywhere really. I'm just bored and can't think of anything better to do." He replied.
I nodded, "Okay, so let's go."
We both stood up from his couch and Isaac grabbed his keys. We left the apartment and made our way to the elevator, taking it down to the lobby. We walked side by side into the parking lot and to his car, climbing in after he unlocked it.
Isaac hooked his phone up to the aux cord, letting his playlist play on shuffle.
We had sat together earlier and put together a playlist of songs that we both liked so that we could play it when we hung out together.
I had let Isaac add most of the songs, but I put some of my favorite ones on there.
I remember reading romance books when I was in middle school where the boy and girl would make a playlist together. Apparently that was considered romantic, but that couldn't be what was happening with Isaac and I, right?
Or maybe it was. I wouldn't really know.
I had never been in a relationship before, so I wouldn't know what those feelings felt like. Sure, I'd had crushes, but it had been a while since I've had one, and they were just stupid high school crushes anyways.
So maybe there was a possibility that there was something between Isaac and I other than friendship. But there was also a possibility that there wasn't and that I was just thinking too far into things.
I shook the thoughts out of my head, focusing on the music. I didn't know the song, but it was pretty good.
I turned to look at Isaac as he hummed along to the song playing from the speakers in his car.
Every time I heard Isaac humming along to a song, I was tempted to ask him to sing, but I had never actually done it.
The song faded out and he handed his phone over to me, which was hooked up to the aux cord.
"Pick a song." He said.
I nodded, thinking of a song to play. I typed it into the search bar and clicked on the song when it loaded.
The instrumental started in the beginning and Isaac glanced over at me, a grin on his face.
"Paramore?"
I nodded in response, chewing on my lip. "You should sing."
"I thought you'd never ask." He smiled.
"Wait, really?"
"No, I just wanted to say that." He laughed. I rolled my eyes, laughing a little.
"Alright, just sing."
"Okay, okay. Calm down."
I smiled, covering my mouth with my hand as I watched him.
"Second chances they don't ever matter, people never change." He sang, "Once a whore, you're nothing more. I'm sorry, that'll never change"
His voice was soft, yet powerful as he sang, if that made any sense. He was a lot better at singing than I expected him to be too.
"And about forgiveness, we're both supposed to have exchanged. I'm sorry, honey, but I passed it up, now look this way."
I hummed along quietly. This was one of my favorite songs, and hearing Isaac sing it only made it better.
It was crazy to think that we had only known each other for eight days and he was already my closest friend, but it was true.
I mean, I didn't really have any other friends, but I didn't let people in easily. It was shocking that I had told him so much about me in just over a week.
When the song ended, I let the next song play. It was a song we found out we both liked, so we added it to the playlist.
"I'm a puppet on a string. Tracy Island, time-travelin' diamond cutter-shaped heartaches."
We both sang along to the song-well, more like he sang and I quietly mumbled the words.
We continued to drive around, not really having a place in mind. Because it was nicer out today, we had opened the windows slightly, allowing cool air to bow into the car as we drove.
"Come to find you four in some velvet ' years too late." We sang. "She's a silver linin', lone ranger ridin' through an open space."
When the song ended, I looked over at Isaac. I smiled, chewing on my lip to try and hide it.
Isaac glanced over at me, catching my eye. He smiled brightly, his eyes crinkling at the corners.
"Reason number eight is music." He said just as the next song started playing.
