Be ready by one. I wanna take you somewhere.
I read over the text from Isaac before grabbing some clothes so I could take a shower. It was currently 11:30, so I had more than enough time to shower, get dressed, and brush my hair.
I showered, washing my hair and body before stepping out and getting dressed. I blow dried my hair so that it would be completely dry by the time Isaac got here before brushing it.
I wondered where he was going to take me today, but I knew it wasn't worth asking. I'd get the same answer I always did.
You'll see.
I could almost hear him saying the words even though he wasn't even here.
I sighed, walking out of the bathroom and into the kitchen. I hadn't eaten yet today, so it would probably be smart to eat before he got here.
I opened the fridge and grabbed a container of mac 'n' cheese that was leftover from what I had made last night for dinner. I scooped it onto a plate and put it in the microwave, setting the container in the sink.
I'll wash it later.
Just after I had finished eating, a knock sounded on the door.
"It's unlocked." I called, knowing that it was Isaac.
The door opened and he stepped inside, smiling at me.
"You keep your door unlocked?" He asked, mocking what I had said a few days ago.
"Shut up." I rolled my eyes, putting my plate and fork in the sink. There were dishes slowly piling up, but I didn't have the time to do it right now.
"Are you ready?" He asked and I nodded, putting my shoes on.
I made sure I had my phone and wallet before we left and took the elevator to the ground floor.
"You're not gonna ask me where we're going?" Isaac questioned, looking down at me.
"I know you're not going to tell me even if I ask." I replied.
"Wow. I can't believe you've given up on me this easily." He placed his hand on his chest, feigning hurt.
"I haven't given up on you." I said. "I've just realized that there's no point to asking a question that's never going to be answered."
"Fair enough." He shrugged as we climbed into his car.
Music started playing from the radio when he turned the car on.
He began humming along to the song and I smiled softly. I had never heard him actually sing, but I liked to think he would be good at it.
"You said cats are your favorite animal, right?" He asked.
I nodded, "Yeah, why?"
"Just making sure." He replied, pulling onto the road.
The car ride was filled with Isaac making stupid jokes, some of them making me laugh, others only making me roll my eyes at him.
"We're here." He said, shutting the car off.
I looked up, just now realizing where we were.
"The pet store?" I raised an eyebrow at him. "What the hell are we doing here?"
"You'll see."
I groaned when he said that, making him laugh. We both climbed out of his car and walked to the door of the small pet shop, the bell jingling above the door as it opened.
Isaac offered the old lady at the counter a soft smile as I let my eyes wander around the shop curiously.
I followed Isaac to the counter, not sure what to do.
"Are you Isaac Thompson?" The lady asked and he nodded.
"That's me."
"Alright. You're good to go." The lady smiled. "I'm sure she'll have fun."
She looked over at me and smiled, which I weakly returned.
I was confused to say the least. Why would Isaac bring me to a pet shop? I had told him that I liked cats, but I had also said that I didn't have enough money to take care of one, so he wouldn't be getting me one, right?
"Come on." Isaac said, pulling me out of my thoughts. He took my hand in his, leading me through the shop until we reached the part where they had kittens.
I furrowed my eyebrows, "What are we doing?"
"I called the shop and asked if we could come in so that you could play with the kittens." He explained, looking down at me. "The lady said that you could, so here we are."
"You didn't have to do this." I said, taking my eyes away from the adorable kittens to look at him.
"I wanted to." He replied, "These ten days are supposed to be showing you the great things in life."
"Thank you." I smiled. He nodded, squeezing my hand, which I had just realized he was still holding. My face flushed, but I didn't let go, liking the feeling of my hand in his.
The old lady came over to us, turning to me.
"Do you see one you like?" She asked, gesturing to the kittens.
I chewed on my lip, looking at them. I nodded, smiling as I watched one of the kittens run around the cage they were in.
It was white with gray markings, making it look kind of like a tiger. I had noticed that it kept meowing an adorable, high pitched meow.
"That one." I pointed at the kitten and the lady smiled.
"He's very talkative." She said, laughing lightly as she opened the cage and picked him up.
She carried the kitten over to a play pen, reaching over and sitting him inside.
"I'll go get you some toys so you can play with him." She said. "You can climb in there and play with him while I get them."
I nodded, stepping over the side of the pen before sitting down on the carpeted floor. Isaac stepped in after, sitting down across from me.
I slowly held my hand out for the kitten to sniff. He took a tentative step towards me, sniffing my hand before meowing.
"He's adorable." I said, laughing a little.
"He is." Isaac agreed, reaching out and letting the kitten sniff his hand.
Shortly after, the lady came back with a few toys, handing them to us.
"Thank you." Isaac said, taking them from her.
She smiled, "You're very welcome, dear."
She then walked back to the desk, leaving Isaac and I alone with the kitten.
I took one of the toys from the small pile Isaac had set them in and held it up for the kitten to play with.
It was a plastic stick with a string and feathers attached to the end. He seemed to like it, as he kept jumping up at it, clawing at the feathers and meowing.
"I wish I could take him home with me." I said, smiling softly.
"You can if you want."
I looked up at Isaac and quickly shook my head.
"Come on. If you really want him, you can have him."
I shook my head again, "Isaac, I'm not letting you buy me a kitten. And then you'd have to pay for all the stuff to take care of him. That's a lot of money."
Isaac sighed, but let the subject go, watching me as I played with the kitten.
Another reason why I didn't want to get him was because if I decided not to stay at the end of these ten days, I would be leaving him behind without an owner. I'm sure Isaac would take care of him if that did happen, but what if he didn't. What if he just moved on from me and didn't care about taking care of him?
"Reason number five," Isaac started.
"Kittens?" I guessed, finishing his sentence. He nodded, a smile on his lips.
