Midoriya was adorable. That was all Shoto Todoroki could think as he listened to the boy ramble on about training and whatever else his brain could pull out. It was like the words just gushed out to the point where Todoroki wasn't even listening, just sitting with his head resting on his fist. It was too hard to follow along with his rambles, anyway.
"Don't overthink it, Izuku. You'll hurt yourself."
Midoriya paused, looking at Todoroki with those wide green eyes of his. He wasn't called Izuku often, usually just Midoriya or Deku, so it threw him off. Not that he was complaining. Then, it hit him.
"Todoroki, was that a joke? You never joke!"
Was it? Todoroki hadn't even noticed, just shrugging in response. Midoriya's mood seemed to be oddly lifted, though, so he assumed that something had gone right.
They resumed their studying, since Todoroki's grades had been slipping. All the focus on being a hero left his studies forgotten, so Midoriya volunteered himself to help. Yaoyorozu would've, if she weren't already helping half the class 1A students.
Midoriya didn't mind it. He got to spend time with Todoroki, even if it was just going over notes and explaining different concepts in his heavily All Might themed dorm. Todoroki knew that Izuku absolutely adored All Might before, but when the girls thoroughly embarrassed him by showing off all the dorms, it was even more obvious.
"Todoroki?" Midoriya asked, nudging his knee. That sure snapped Shoto back from whatever daze he'd been stuck in, earning a smile from the boy. "Oh, good, you are still on Earth."
With a soft smile tugging at the corners of his lips, Todoroki shrugged once more. "Maybe I'm not. Maybe I'm an alien."
"You and your jokes today," Midoriya giggled out, briefly looking across the dorm to his All Might clock and nearly jumping out of his chair when he saw the time. "It's almost curfew! You should probably get going, I don't want you to get in trouble. Aizawa would kill us."
"Yeah, you're right." Torodoki wished he wouldn't, he wanted to stay longer, but he wasn't sure that was his choice to make. "I'll see you tomorrow, then," he said, though reluctant, as he stood. "Goodnight, Izuku."
Really, Midoriya wanted him to stay too. But, he also didn't want to get him in trouble. So, he just gave Todoroki a far too bright smile and called out, "Goodnight!" just as the door shut.
Once he heard the click, Midoriya jumped straight from his desk to his bed and squealed into his pillow, finally letting out all the pent-up feelings. Well, maybe not all of them, but a good squeal let most of it out.
Crushes were hard, especially when said crush was spending a ridiculous amount of time with the person who liked them.
* * * * *
Well, that was nerve-wracking, Todoroki thought.
He would never get used to being alone with Midoriya. At least, not fully. They spent several days a week studying together as well as just hanging out normally, as friends, and every time was the same as the last. Todoroki stealing glances, getting nervous, sometimes tripping over his own words.
He kept struggling to hold back a smile and often felt heat in his cheeks, much like the heat of his left side. The side Midoriya got him to use again. Why did he do that? Todoroki wondered. He'd broken his bones, then broke them again, but he wasn't trying to win. So why?
He didn't know, but he knew it touched even the right side of his heart and spread warmth where it hadn't been before. It made him feel some sort of way, something he couldn't put a label or good or bad on.
He still didn't quite catch onto why he was like this, and it wouldn't hit him for a long, long while.
