Their date-maybe-not-date couldn't have come sooner enough. Midoriya was thrilled. He didn't know what to wear or what to say or really what was happening at all, but he was excited. Especially getting a text from Todoroki saying that they'd stop by a store to grab some snacks together and not to worry about getting any. It was the first time he'd gotten a text from him in a few days and it renewed the butterflies he used to get.
He practically skipped down the stairs, not bothering to use the elevator since it was only one floor. Since he was early, he briefly stopped to visit with Tsuyu, Iida, and Uraraka—the latter of which sitting suspiciously close together—before he made his way out of the door.
Todoroki beamed, even if it wasn't in the Midoriya style. There weren't any practically sparkling eyes, bright grins, or pink cheeks, but rather the faintest smile that had Midoriya's heart melting.
"Hey, Zu. You ready to head out?" Getting a hurried nod, Todoroki just smiled a little wider in response. He hesitated before holding his right hand out, struggling not to set his left side on fire when Midoriya laced their fingers together.
"You look cute today. Green looks really good on you," Midoriya spoke, his words nearly mixing together with how fast they came out. It was true, though. Todoroki wore the same muted green turtleneck from the arcade, except now with ripped blue jeans instead of black trousers.
"Mmm, you look cuter." Midoriya opened his mouth to say something but Todoroki placed his free hand on his lips, silencing him by flustering him. "No arguments, you're cute."Midoriya pouted and swiped his tongue across Todoroki's finger, effectively disgusting the boy. They walked in silence until they'd crossed the entrance when Midoriya finally blurted out, "What kind of snacks do you want to get?"
Cute, Todoroki thought. "Hmm, mochi? Mochi sounds good right now. Ooh, bubble tea? Definitely something not full of sugar, too. Maybe we can pick up a couple bento boxes, the store I have in mind makes some good ones."
"Ooh, bubble tea does sound good. Wait, can I get a boba smoothie? That sounds so good right now."
"Yeah, of course." Todoroki led the way, discussing possible snacks with Midoriya until they came across a small corner store. He released the boy's hand only to hold the door open for him.
They didn't spend much time there, just picking up two fairly cheap bento boxes and a couple candies before they walked a bit further to a bubble tea shop. Todoroki ordered a honeydew milk tea and Midoriya a strawberry boba smoothie. Midoriya skipped along to the bus stop as he sipped and Todoroki only watched and smiled, silently appreciating the beauty of the boy. Even as they boarded the bus, he was just quietly chewing on tapioca pearls and watching as Midoriya's feet wiggled in happy little kicks. He only vaguely paid attention to what the boy was saying, somehow managing to carry that on until they were by the garden.
Without an ounce of hesitation, Todoroki laced their fingers together once more and walked them through the entrance. For a while, they just walked around and talked, drifting from topic to topic until Midoriya was going on one of his rambles about something that had happened at his work study and chewing on ice cream mochi they'd bought at a stand.
Todoroki had been nodding along, too preoccupied staring at the boy's face to really pay attention, when he saw the oh-so familiar white and green of roses. The same roses that surrounded the fountain and benches they'd sat at when they began dating. He smiled, nudging Midoriya's shoulder before he disappeared into the green and white.
Midoriya's eyebrows furrowed as he looked around, briefly spotting a flash of red and following it. He was only more confused when he couldn't find Todoroki, even if he'd thoroughly scanned the circle of roses surrounding the fountain. He walked out of the area, his curiosity far from sated.
Where had Todoroki gone?
He walked in a circle around the area, then back in. It worked that time, since he found Todoroki on the other side of the fountain, softly humming to himself. The half-and-half boy didn't yet notice him, instead observing the roses on the bushes. The humming came to a rather abrupt halt when he briefly turned his head and saw Midoriya.
"Where did you—oh!" Midoriya paused mid sentence as Todoroki held out a small bouquet of dethorned white roses tied together with a red ribbon. There was a small tag attached that Midoriya read nearly immediately.
Will you go out with me? Was written in Todoroki's handwriting, a small note at the bottom saying (again), and Midoriya nearly cried as he launched himself at Todoroki, roses still in his hand, wrapping his arms around the boy's waist. He pulled his face away only to press his lips to Todoroki's, a choked, "Yes!" managing to escape. Todoroki didn't even respond, simply scooping Midoriya right under the chin to press their lips together once more as the world came to a standstill around them.
That moment was all Todoroki ever wanted.
All Midoriya ever wanted.
All they ever wanted.
And they got it.
