The sun rose from the horizon, its mild light falling upon the white curtains of the prince's room. The maid entered the room and pushed the curtains aside, letting the sunlight fall directly on the man sleeping under the sheets, making him squint his eyes. The birds were chirping. They were like an alarm for the boy. He rubbed his eyes and yawned as he sat up, hair messed up and the silk top falling off from one of his shoulders.
"Good morning to his royal highness" she spoke in a tender voice as she bowed down.
"Morning, Rose" he said in his groggy, husky voice as he got up from the bed.
He noticed the maid smiling a panicky smile which confused him.
"What are you on about, Rose?" he asked as he drank his water from the metal cup kept on the bed-stand.
"Sire, you do realize what day it is today, right?" Rose asked in a hesitant voice, not wanting to anger the prince.
Her words made the coal haired male slip into a daze, trying to figure out what day it was today.
And as soon as he recalled upon, the cup from his hand slipped on the fur carpet, wetting it and splotching the ends of his pajamas.
"Rose, is it that day?" he asked, his voice no longer filled with sleep.
"Yes, your highness" Rose said in an awkward manner
The 25 year old, prince was standing in front of his maid, with horrified expressions over his face, and before he could make another statement, the wooden door burst open.
Rose gasped as she quickly bowed down.
It was The Majesty and His Grace.
The woman standing in her most luxurious gown, gasped as she looked at the state of her son.
She rushed to him and cupped his puffy face.
"Dear lord, why aren't you ready, my child?!" she asked in a surprised tone, because of course, she thought she would get to see her son all dressed up in royal clothes, happily ready to be getting married.
"I-I just woke up" the man couldn't help but stutter because he was still trying to process the current happenings.
The Queen turned towards Rose as her expressions turned from shocked to annoy.
"And my dear Rose, I thought I assigned you with the task to get his highness ready for the biggest day of his life, didn't I? Then why are you standing here like a giraffe?" she chided. It was a given. She didn't want anything to be imperfect, especially today.
Rose hurriedly bowed down as she spoke in a panicked manner.
"Forgive me, your grace. I was about to get his highness to dress up when you appeared"
"Whatever. Please get his highness ready as soon as possible. There are a lot of things that are to be done downstairs and I don't want His and Her Majesty of Kingsland to feel we are lacking in any aspect. The wedding has to be grand!" she chirped up at the thought of seeing her son getting married and inheriting the throne. Because as a mother, this was the only thing she wanted the most to happen.
She looked at her son and gave him a soft smile, cupping his cheeks once again.
"Son, I am so proud of you. You are going to be taking the throne after your father today. You are going to become a great King, just like your father. And your Queen, your Queen is the prettiest woman in the whole world. You two will handle the kingdom really well. I am sure of it" she said with love lacing her voice.
All the man could do was smile and smile. This might not be a thing that he wanted to do, but when you are a royalty, your want is just merely a personal possession. The irony is that something like freedom doesn't exist in this huge kingdom where there is an expansive garden within every mile or a big community hall where you could do whatever you want.
