Rune Westwood held open the deck of cards under the table. "Pick one."

"Where did you get these?" whispered Evan Rosier, looking down at the suit of hearts, diamonds, clubs, and spades. And at the obvious gold in the rimming and symbols.

"It was a gift," answered Rune, checking again to make sure Professor McGonagall was too occupied with writing notes on the board to notice them.

"From whom?"

"Come on," exasperated Rune ignoring his question and shaking the cards. "Pick one."

"Shhh!" hissed Regulus Black from the seat in front of them.

They both ignored him, and Evan reached forward and picked a card. He held it up with the backside facing towards her.

"Okay, take a good look at it. Do you have it in your mind?"

"Yes, ma'am," answered Evan.

"Okay put it back inside," she said, motioning to the deck.

Once he did, she shuffled the deck, keeping her eyes on Evan's and then she picked out a card and held it up to him. "Is this your card?"

Evan clicked his tongue at her and turned back to his textbook. "No. You just wasted my time."

Rune let out a quiet laugh and poked his shoulder, her eyes twinkling with excitement.

"What?" he asked.

With a mischievous smile, she pulled her skirt up slightly to reveal a 7 of Hearts card tattooed on the skin just above her knee. "Is this your card?"

Evan gasped loudly, earning a warning glare from Professor McGonagall.

"How did you do that?!" he exclaimed, reaching forward and prodding her tattoo with his finger.

"Magic, Rosier," grinned Rune, pulling her skirt back down over the tattoo. "Magic."

Regulus sighed loudly and without turning around, explained, "She got that tattooed on her leg in the holidays. And then she manipulated the deck of cards so that you chose the 7 of Hearts."

"Mr Black," said Professor McGonagall sternly. "I do hope my teaching is not interrupting your disruption of my class."

"I'm sorry, Professor," murmured Regulus, going back to his notes.

Before the Transfigurations Professor turned back to the board, she marked the smirks on the faces of Rune and Evan.

Regulus turned to the duo seated behind him and grimaced.

"Maybe you should learn to mind your own business, Black," hummed Rune, under her breath.

"Piss off, Rune."

"Mr Black," reprimanded Professor McGonagall again, causing Regulus' attention to pivot forward once more. "Why don't you explain to us the purpose of learning Vanishing spells before Conjuring spells?"

"Er—" He hesitated for a moment, and it was all Rune needed before answering.

"Vanishing spells make objects disappear into non-being," she said, articulately with textbook perfection. "Conjuring spells make objects appear from non-being. One of the limits placed on conjuration spells in transfiguration is that you must be able to create a non-being space or, everything before you pull an object into being."

Professor McGonagall nodded, "The ten points you would have won for Slytherin, Miss Westwood, will be balanced with the ten points you lost for playing card games in my classroom. Put it away."
