Sixth year, they quickly realized, was far more strenuous than the previous ones. Spell casting relied heavily on non-verbal spells and the assigned textbooks were not enough to supply the knowledge needed for it.

Students all around were falling behind.

Rune had anticipated such and every lesson her confidence grew as her potions turned out perfect, her transfigurations were all successful, her charms did what they needed to and even her arithmancy sums worked out.

That was probably the reason why she found Regulus on the other side of her door at 9pm with parchment and ink in his hands.

She folded her arms over her chest. "Good evening, Regulus. How can I help you?"

"What elixirs are you taking?" he asked.

"What?"

"You must be taking something. Wit-sharpening. Strong Exstimulo. Something."

"You still doubt my intelligence," she said with a sigh. "I sent you my O.W.L scores, didn't you see the proof of my genius?"

"Never got it," he told her.

"Accio O.W.L scores." Immediately a sheet from Rune's table flew into her hands and she held it before Regulus' eyes.

He pushed it down and said, "I don't care about O.W.Ls. I care about this year's work. How are you not falling behind?"

"I didn't have much to do in the holidays. I read up on almost everything already."

"What resources did you use?"

"Whatever I could get my hands on. Are you here for recommendations?" Her eyes slipped down to the parchment. She already knew he wasn't.

"Study with me."

Rune stared at him. "I didn't hear the please."

"You won't."

"Okay then, bye." Rune shut the door in his face.

She had to wait a whole 5 seconds before she heard the knocking and opened it up to him again. "Yes?"

"Study with me... please," murmured Regulus.

"The please sounds like an afterthought. Try again."

As she was about to shut the door again, he placed his hand on it to push it open and sighed, "Please. Help me study."

"There we go. Was that really so hard?" She opened the door fully and gestured for him to walk inside.

When he didn't move forward, she raised her eyebrows at him.

"I'm just coming in here to study. Nothing else."

She scowled at him. "When did I insinuate otherwise?"

"I'm just letting you know," he remarked.

"Well, you don't have to! I'm not some crazed heathen who can't control herself around you."

"I know that!" he retaliated. "I was just saying." He made to step inside, but she stepped in front of him and blocked his way.

"You can't come inside anymore."

"I was just making a statement!"

"Yeah. Now I'm reacting to that statement. You don't have to come into my room. We can go study in the library. Wait here and let me grab my things."

Regulus began speaking but she shut the door and cut him off as she went to her table and gathered her stuff. With each thing she put in her hands, she mentally cursed him and then herself.
