(Y/n) Rogers stood on the edge of the fort at Port Royal, looking out at the sea. It had been three months to the day that Captain Jack Sparrow had left this island. Three months to the day that (Y/n) admitted to herself that she had fallen in love with a pirate.
And in those three months, she hadn't seen him once, but her feelings never changed.
The girl stood in her trousers and blouse with her sword at her side and necklaces hanging on her chest, waiting for Will Turner to meet her. He and Elizabeth had officially started courting, and (Y/n) could not be more happy for her best friends. She just wished she could share that feeling of being with who you love.
"Are you ready, (Y/n)?" Will asked from behind her, startling her out of her trance.
"Oh, yes. Of course, Will." (Y/n) said, and they started walking towards the smithy shop. That was where they practiced, for it would be wrong to society to see a woman learning to handle a sword.
Will had taught (Y/n) much, but there were some things she learned from Jack that always stayed with her. After a series of fighting, she managed to disarm Will.
"Wonderful, (Y/n)! How did you do that?" he asked.
"Oh, it was just a little something I learned from..." (Y/n) trailed off. "From Jack."
Will's smile dropped some, knowing how much his friend missed that pirate. It was obvious how deeply (Y/n) had come to love Jack, and Will was worried that he would use these feelings to his advantage. Pirates weren't exactly known to fall in love.
"I'm sorry, (Y/n). I shouldn't have asked." Will said, and picked up his sword.
"No, no. It's alright, Will. I should just stop being so sensitive about the subject. You didn't know." she rambled slightly. "I just... I miss him. I hardly think he misses me, though."
"Hey, c'mere." Will said, and brought her into a brotherly hug. They heard the clock ding, and (Y/n) remembered she had to get back to Johanna.
The elder seamstress had not been feeling the best lately, so (Y/n) has been spending more time with her to help to nurse her back to health. It had been getting worse, however. So she had to rush home more often to help Johanna.
"I've got to go, Will. Johanna told me she had something to tell me." (Y/n) said and grabbed her sword. "Goodbye, Will."
"Goodbye." he called after her.
The walk back home was quiet, but it was getting darker, and soon there would be a few unsavory characters wandering the streets. (Y/n) began to walk fast, but slowed down as she neared the newer boutique Governor Swann had gifted them.
"Johanna! I'm home!" she called. Johanna slowly came through the door to the living room, dressed in her nightgown. She had a saddened look upon her usually more cheerful face.
"(Y/n), sit down with me, dear." Johanna beckoned her daughter to the couch, and (Y/n) sat down beside her mother. "There is... something I've been meaning to speak to you about."
"Yes, Johanna. You mentioned it this morning." (Y/n) said, Johanna grasping her hands.
"Dear... we both know I'm not going to be around much longer and I-"
"Johanna, don't say such things! You'll be all right in a few weeks, you'll see!" (Y/n) said.
"(Y/n), please, listen." Johanna begged, and the girl quieted. "I need to know that you are supported, and... well, there's a man I'd like you to meet."
(Y/n) gave her mother a worried look. "Johanna. Where are you going with this?" She prayed that what she thought was happening was not the truth.
A knock on the door interrupted their speaking. Johanna sighed and grabbed a candle from the table and went to answer the door. (Y/n) stayed in the living room, hearing voices. One was Johanna's and the other was a man's. As Johanna reentered, the man followed her, taking his hat off. He wore a dark, all black suit, and had black, curly hair with prominent cheekbones.
