Doubt

"That was so fake," I said to my friends Sam and Kara who told me the legend. "I could've come up with some better story than that," I said between laughs.

Maybe I should explain, my name is Jake and the people I'm currently talking to are my friends Kara and Sam, who I've known for a few weeks now. We share a love of anything horror-related so naturally, that would be the main thing we talked about just to see if we could scare each other. I enjoyed the topic, but these two were insanely into it to the point of various stories that weren't often true. Little did I know that this wasn't one of those stories.

"No you couldn't, what're you talking about Jake?" Sam asked as he and Kara joined in on the laughter. "Everyone knows about her around here."

This was partly true aside from myself, this was my first Halloween in the small town. I had moved here from the city a few weeks back and had heard better stories over there. I'm not a person who scares easily if at all but hey stories can still be entertaining. Kara and Sam are good at storytelling, don't get me wrong, but legends are a bit harder to believe with them.

I just look at the two of them. "Come on guys you don't believe that stuff do you?" I asked kinda aggravatingly at this point. "There's no way any of that happened, it's stupid."

Kara and Sam just looked at one another. This wasn't the first time we've talked about stuff like this and they knew I wasn't going to just be convinced of something right off the bat, let alone something seemingly unrealistic as this.

Kara then looked at me with what appeared to be a concern. "You've never heard of the Medallion of the Haunted have you?" She asked me. "Her necklace?"

I gave her a confused look. "I'm sorry what now?" I asked with a mix of confusion and honestly a peak of interest.

"The necklace is called the Medallion of the Haunted," Sam explained. "It acts as a prison for the children she captures as well as control over them to do her bidding." He added on.

Kara nodded and looked at me. "Not only that but if someone takes the medallion from her body before Halloween night," She said looking at Sam, then at me. "It's magic that can keep them safe when she comes again." She explained.

I just laughed and shook my head. "Why do it before Halloween night?" I asked sarcastically. "Something bad supposed to happen before then?" I continued.

As I said this, Sam and Kara looked and exchanged worried looks towards each other. "I mean the story's great and all," I said to them. "But you guys aren't that convincing."

Kara gave me a stern look before getting up and walking over and grabbing a picture from the dresser. "Remember this day?" She asked as she sat back down with me and Sam, handing me the picture.

I looked at the picture. It was the three of us in an old cemetery. "Yeah, I had just moved here and we checked it out," I said looking at Kara. "What's your point?" Kara pointed at one of the tombstones reading the name Nancy Brown. "So what?" I asked with a shrug. "That doesn't prove she's Nanny Clownface," I added.

As I said that, a notification came onto my phone. I picked it up to see a message from my mom wondering when I was coming home. I messaged back that I should be home before dinner.

Suddenly the room went dark, the power had gone out. I could hear footsteps so I assumed Sam and Kara went to check the breaker or something. This had never happened when I had come here before so I was caught off guard.

I got up and felt around for the dresser. The room was pitch black and I couldn't see anything around me. I eventually got to the dresser and placed the picture onto it. Just as I walked some ways away from the dresser I felt something slam on my foot and I tripped and fell on the ground.

I didn't know what I hit but before I could even say anything, something was forced onto my head. The smell of it was like rotten onions and it was just unbearable. I tried to force it off but someone kept pulling on it and dragging me out of the house.

As the person was doing this. I could hear a vehicle door opening, making me start to panic. As much as I wanted to scream, the smell was suffocating me at this point. Instead, I resorted to trying to kick and punch my way out to no avail. I was forced into the vehicle, heard the doors close, and then the engine started before we began moving.

I didn't know what to think. I was just kidnapped for whatever reason, I had no idea where we were going and didn't know where Sam and Kara were. As I thought all of this, all I could feel was a sudden chill rushing through my spine as the ride continued.
