The drive seemed to go on for hours. I had no idea where I was or how much time had passed. All I could do was try to memorize every twist and turn, this way I could at least be able to tell someone a way to find me.
It was as I was doing this that I remembered my phone. I felt my pockets, nothing, must've left it at Sam and Kara's place. I had managed to calm myself down enough to think about what could be happening. I was the only one grabbed, a bag of onion odor was over my head, my hands weren't tied.
"Wait a minute..." I thought to myself as I finally realized this. I had been so panicked that I didn't notice that I could still move around. I removed the bag and saw Sam and Kara, not only that but we were in Sam's truck. "Seriously?" I asked myself as I shook my head in disbelief.
It made sense now, the onion smell from the bag was exactly like what Sam was going to use for some haunted room experience he was working on. He and Kara didn't seem to notice me and I decided to do something risky...and dumb.
In my defense, they should be smart enough to lock the doors. I slowly reached for the lever and opened the door, immediately jumping out and rolling onto the road. This hurt, especially with the pain from my foot just starting to feel better, this didn't help.
The truck stopped and turned, driving back towards me. The vehicle stopped with Sam and Kara both stepping out and coming over to me. "That was stupid, Jake!" Kara said in a stern tone.
I was in some pain but couldn't help but laugh as they came over. "Then work on your kidnapping skills," I replied to Kara. "Where are we anyway?" I asked looking around.
Wherever we were it was deserted, the middle of nowhere even. However, a few feet away was an old fairground that looked like it had been abandoned for years, even from a distance.
"This is where Nancy Brown's story was told," Kara explained. I just looked at her confused. "Okay, so why are we here?" I asked as Sam helped me up.
Sam and Kara didn't answer but started walking into the fairground, I then followed. It was much worse walking through the place. Everything around us was either broken apart, collapsed, or even straight-up torn to shreds. We kept walking until we reached it, The Haunted Screamer, covered in cobwebs with broken tracks and a smell that was an equal match to a dump.
"Over there," Kara said pointing into the shadows in the site. I didn't know what she was pointing at until we went deeper and then I saw it. Hidden in the shadows, the burnt skeleton, cloak, and mask of Nanny Clownface. I noticed the medallion hanging around the neck and went for a closer look.
"We need to grab it and take it with us," Sam said referring to the medallion. I looked at him confused. "What, why?" I asked him. Sam explained reminded me that it could protect us, as well as we could use it to break her curse before Halloween night.
I looked at the two of them for a moment and then at what was Nanny Clownface and then walked closer. As I reached to unclip the medallion it began to glow. Sam and Kara tried to stop me, it was too late. As soon as I removed the medallion, boom! A roar of thunder began as the sky darkened and lightning struck down throughout the fairground.
The air suddenly had a strong wind and I could hear something breathing. I looked to see the skeleton, now with glowing green eyes glaring at me. "Give it back!" The skeleton said in a demonic voice. "Unless you never want to see the light of day again!"
I instantly backed away, put the medallion on, and we got our butts away from it. As we did, the skeleton began to float from the ground and transform into the full demonic presence of Nanny Clownface. She had a demonic screech that was way worse than any haunted house, and she was headed right for us.
We were able to make it to the truck and get inside. "Okay, we've got it," I said as I could see the demon coming closer. "Now let's get out of here!" I shouted.
Sam started the truck and raced off as Nanny Clownface followed not far behind. As we raced through, a thick mist started appearing ahead. "If we don't get out of here before she closes the barrier," Kara said, pointing to the mist. "We'll be trapped here." She said.
As we neared the mist, the medallion began to glow and I could hear a phrase whispering in my head over and over. "Ανοίξτε το φράγμα!" I shouted as we went through the mist. I could hear the demonic screech coming but then fade away.
Everything had gone back to normal and Nanny Clownface wasn't on site. Sam looked at me with a confused expression. "Since when do you speak Greek?" He asked. "I don't," I replied as I looked at the medallion, no longer glowing.
"Well, you need to keep an eye on that medallion," Sam said to me as he continued driving. I looked at him and Kara with wide eyes. "Woah, no no no!" I said a bit freaked out and annoyed. "You're the one who wanted it, you take it!" I exclaimed as I went to take the medallion off. It wouldn't budge or unclip, I couldn't get it off. It was like a magnet or something.
"It has to be you," Kara replied. "You're the one who grabbed it so you're the only one who can mess with it." As we continued the drive to their house to get my phone. They then drove me back to my place.
"Hey, you still going Halloween shopping with us tomorrow?" Sam asked as I got out of the truck. "Yeah, I'll be there," I replied with a smile. Kara looked at Sam, then at me. "Seriously though, you can't let that thing out of your sight." She said. I rolled my eyes and nodded as they drove off. It's not like I could get rid of it anyway.
I walked up to my house and walked inside. It was late, which was nothing different and something mom would've expected. "Mom, I'm home!" I called out, locking the door behind me. I waited for a moment in silence. "Mom?" I asked.
I looked around to see the house empty, I was on my own. As I entered the kitchen I noticed a note on the fridge. "Had to work late tonight," I read the note. "Dinner's in the fridge." I read before checking the fridge.
I found some chicken and took it up to my room and pulled out my laptop while I ate. An email notification went off and I checked it. It was weird, no email address, just the words "You have not won" typed in the email.
I shook my head and deleted the email. It was probably just a prank thing, right? I just shrugged it off and finished my chicken while continuing to mess with my laptop. After a while I started nodding off and looked at the time, it was late like I said but I couldn't stay awake any longer. I closed my laptop and put it away before just laying down. Didn't feel like changing so I just passed out with the medallion glowing a faint green as I slept.
