My vision was completely dark, head pounding, feeling as if I was spinning. Suddenly the feeling stopped and I opened my eyes, vision blurred at first but slowly cleared up. As it did, I noticed I ended up beside the bench instead of on it. I felt a shiver go down my spine and immediately stood up.

I looked around, darkness and fog surrounded me as the air grew cold enough to see my breath. "Hello, is anyone there?" I asked as I continued to look around. "Sam, Kara, come on guys this isn't funny," I said as a slight breeze flew by, making my skin crawl. "Hello, Jake." I heard a woman's voice say behind me.

I recognized the voice and didn't want to turn around but did anyway. As I did, I realized I was right. It was her, Nanny Clownface, in the flesh. "You have something that belongs to me." She said, horrifically as she pointed to the medallion. "And you will return it to me."

I bolted and ran off in the other direction, pausing for a second to look back, thinking I had lost her until I turned around. "The wretched children are the ones responsible for my death!" She shouted as I jumped back. "Now all of them will pay!"

As I ran from Nanny Clownface, I could hear my name being repeated. At first, it was faint but slowly grew louder and clearer. "Jake!" I heard someone shout as I opened my eyes. The fog and darkness were gone and so was Nanny Clownface. "Jake, are you okay?" I heard someone ask, causing me to jump.

It was Sam and Kara. I looked to see that I was in the same spot by the bench and stood up. "Where'd she go?" I asked in a bit of a panic. "Okay, calm down," Kara said. "This is seriously the last thing you should be saying," I said to her.

"Listen, you're right," Kara said to me. "We should have told you everything else we knew about the medallion." She added. Sam nodded in agreement. "The curse isn't just visions and sounds," He explained. "It's going to do everything it can to tempt you to get it back to her." He explained. "As long as you don't fall asleep you'll be fine."

Wait, was he serious? "If you do, everyone will be at risk," Kara explained. "Tons of more children will become her prisoners if she goes free." She added. I shook my head. "Then we've got a big problem," I said. "You guys know I sleep a lot."

This wasn't entirely wrong, I did tend to fall asleep easily sometimes. Even if I got enough sleep I would still find myself dozing off in class, mid-conversation, if there's an opportunity my brain takes it. I knew this wasn't gonna be easy.

"Don't worry, we have a plan for that," Sam assured me. "But you'll need to stay with us until then." He explained. "The medallion will drain your energy the entire time you fight it and your place will make it too easy."

I agreed and got everything arranged for me to be with Sam and Kara for a few days. As far as my mom knew, we were doing a project for school. I came to the house and Sam had already gotten together a bunch of energy drinks, food, really anything to keep him awake.

"You do realize I'm gonna be a zombie at school right?" I asked as I noticed everything. "Okay, Sam's exaggerating this a bit," Kara said. "Sleeping is fine at first but as it gets closer to Halloween we need to make sure you don't get influenced." She explained. "Meaning you'll probably have to try to at least mess around with your sleep schedule."

This was easier said than done. Over the next few days, I did my part to keep myself awake the best I could. My sleep was messed up enough before now, but now I was being drained by a medallion. I could feel myself nodding off and eventually passing out throughout the day, especially in school, the one place I'd wish I could just sleep.

I still saw and heard things but did my best to just block them out. One day I was in a lecture and couldn't help myself at that point. I just passed out and slept for a few minutes. Just then I heard Nanny Clownface's laugh, immediately waking me up, at least I thought I did.

I looked around and found myself at the amusement park and was under the Haunted Screamer ride. Flames built up and I felt as if I was being crushed by something heavy. Nanny Clownface's laugh continued as she flew around, watching me. She wasn't the only one, there were children whose faces were hard to make out their expression.

As I saw the children more clearly, I noticed they were pale, some were just heads even. One child came over to me, the boy from before. "You shouldn't have taken the medallion." He said, emotionless. "Now she'll come for you," He continued, looking directly into my eyes. "And you will join us." He finished.

The look in the boy's eyes looked as if his entire soul was drained, his face as if he shouldn't even be alive. I was too afraid to do anything when I felt something on my shoulder. I jumped and woke up in the classroom. "Here," Sam said, handing over a Monster energy drink. I took the drink and perked up a bit. That was the worst experience I've had yet.

As the day ended, Sam, Kara, and I made sure everything was ready for Halloween, it was tomorrow and we needed to be prepared. I was able to get some sleep that night, something strange happened the next day. I woke up and didn't feel drained or exhausted the opposite. I felt completely fine.
