DINER - DAY
Dean taps a button on the jukebox, then thumps it. Sam is at a table with his laptop open while Ellie is talking on the phone.
"No, no, no, you're right, it's definitely weird... Okay, Bobby, thanks." She puts the phone away as Dean comes over.
"What's up?" Dean asks, as she grabs Sam's laptop. ~
"Erm? Do you mind?" Sam hits at his little sister.
"Bobby found something in Wyoming." She explains.
"A job?" Dean follows up.
"Maybe." Sam answers as Dean takes a bite into a burger.
"Small town, no one's died in the past week and a half." Ellie explains.
"That so unusual?" Dean asks.
"Well, it's how they're dying."
"One guy with terminal cancer strolls right out of hospice. Another guy gets capped by a mugger and walks away without a scratch." Ellie reads from Sam's laptop.
"Capped in the ass?" Dean follows up, Ellie rolls her eyes at him as Sam reads over her shoulder.
"Police say Mr. Jenkins was shot in the heart point-blank range by a nine-millimeter." He reads out as Dean keeps eating.
"And he's not a doughnut?" Dean speaks with his mouth full.
"Locals are saying it's a miracle." Ellie adds on as she steals a bite of her brother's burger causing him to glare at her while she smirks back.
"It's got to be something nasty, right? I mean, people making deals or something." Sam guesses, Dean and Ellie consider this.
"You think?" Dean asks.
"What else would it be?" Sam hits back.
"All right." Ellie says as she gives Sam his laptop who puts it in his bag. "Get that to go." Ellie tells Dean who doesn't move and looks down.
"Come on." Sam says as him and Ellie stand up, picking his bag. Dean doesn't move except to chew. Sam and Ellie look at each other than at their brother. "Dean?" He looks up at Sam and keeps chewing, then glances away.
"Sure you want me going with you two?" Dean asks.
"Why wouldn't we?" Ellie questions, confused.
"I just don't want to be holding Sam back." He explains, Ellie rolls her eyes and groans.
"Dude, I've told you a hundred times, that was the siren talking, not me." Sam defends himself.
"Guys, we need to get past this." The youngest Winchester moans, Dean puts down the burger.
"Yeah, we're past it." Dean lies as he brushes off his house.
JIM JENKIN'S HOUSE
The three Winchesters are sitting at Jim's dining room table, he sits down across from them as his wife and daughter are visible in the next room.
"Now, you three said you were bloggers?" Jim asks.
"Yes, sir. Flooredbythelord.com." Sam lies.
"All of the God's glory fit to blog." Dean adds with a grin, Ellie glances at him and clears her throat.
"Um. Some of the people around town are saying what happened to you was a miracle." Ellie explains.
"It was. Plain as day." Jim tells them.
"How can you be so sure?" She asks.
"There's a bullet in my heart, and it's pumping like a piston." Jim answers.
"Well, how do you explain it?" Dean questions.
"I was nobody's saint - not exactly father of the year, either." Jim answers.
"Okay."
"But when that guy shot me and I didn't bleed a drop? I just knew the Lord was giving me a second chance." Jim states.
"That so?" Ellie asks.
"I had this feeling-like angels were watching over me." Jim pauses while the three nod. "I wouldn't expect you guys to understand." He looks at the three siblings as Ellie's mind goes to a certain blue eyed angel.
"Well, we'll just have to try." Dean mumbles.
"You wouldn't have happened to have swung by a crossroads in the past week or so?" Sam asks, Jim looks at him confused.
"No."
"Maybe you met someone? With black eyes? Or red?" Sam follows up, Jim leans forward.
"Who'd you guys say you were again?"
"Never mind. Thank you for your time." Dean says as he gets up, with his brother and sister following.
MOTEL
Dean and Ellie are sitting at a table, he's on the laptop while she reads a news article. Sam opens the door and comes in.
"Hey." Sam says as he closes the door, Ellie looks up with a smile.
"Anything?" Dean asks, Sam comes over and sits down next to them.
"That cancer survivor? He was clinically dead, his wife puled the plug, and now he's taking her out for their twentieth anniversary." Sam explains.
"Any sign of a deal?" Ellie questions.
"No. What about you two? Found anyone dying around here?"
"Not since Cole Griffin." Dean answers, he clicks on the picture of Cole on his laptop. "He dropped ten days ago. It was the last death I could find."
"So, what are you guys thinking?" Sam asks, Ellie shrugs.
"Eh, maybe it is what the people say it is." Dean says and gets up. Sam goes over to the laptop, scoffing.
"Miracles? Guys, our experience, when do miracles just happen?" Sam asks them.
"Well, there's no deals. There's , uh, no skeevy faith healers." Dean pours a cup of coffee. "I mean, these souls just ain't getting dragged into the light." Ellie suddenly stands up and clicks her fingers.
"Maybe 'cause there's no one around to carry them." She states, Dean comes back over and sits next to her.
"What do you mean?" He asks.
"Well, grim reapers - that's what they do, right? Schlep souls? So, if death ain't in town -" Ellie starts.
"Then nobody's dying. So what? The local reaper's on strike? Playing the back nine? I don't know, guys." Dean finishes as he drinks his coffee.
"Well, then, let's talk to somebody who might." Sam pipes up.
"Well, last I checked, huggy bear ain't available." Dean says causing Ellie to smirk.
"No, dude, the kid." Sam explains, Dean and Ellie look at each other in confusion.
"The kid?" They say in unison.
"The kid's a doornail." Dean adds on.
"Exactly. Look, if he was the last person to die around here, then maybe he's seen something. We should talk to him." Sam explains.
"I love how matter-of-fact you are about that. Strange lives." The youngest Winchester states causing Dean to nod in agreement as he sips at his coffee.
