Chapter 4: I Can't Do This

A/N: Short chapter here, as I didn't have a particular plan in mind while writing this, and this is my first time writing about a character going through therapy.

So it's probably quite bad. Let me know what you all think anyway.

...

An office with a carpet floor and radiators on full blast, a filing cabinet in one corner on the left side, and a window with a curtain drawn across it, two individuals sat at a table opposite the cabinet, facing each other.

"So, Henry Horrendous Haddock. What can I help you with?"

Hiccup sighed, subconsciously clenching his left hand. "Getting over a girl."

"Ah, I see." The therapist glanced at the contents of the open folder that lay on the table between them, accompanied by an open notepad and pencil. "It says here that you're a captain in the army, and as I'm sure you know, it's not uncommon for soldiers to lose-"

"She's still alive," Hiccup interrupted the therapist. "I wouldn't be here if she had died."

The man nodded and wrote a few words in the notepad before adjusting his glasses with an awkward cough. "I see. Apologies for the misunderstanding."

"It's fine," said Hiccup. "I should have elaborated on that. My problem is that she left me without giving any indication that our relationship was... turning sour. She didn't even think to let me know and have us talk it out. She just left," Hiccup scowled down at the floor. "She's a coward."

Once done writing, the therapist spoke. "What would you say to her if she were here right now? What would you do?"

"I don't know."

"You do. Everyone does. But being angry after a breakup is a perfectly normal response. Particularly in your case. Now, what do you do to get rid of anger, usually? What do you do to relax?"

"Well, sometimes I go and punch the punching bag at the gym I go to. Or practice at the local gun range... Is it that easy to get over a breakup?"

"It depends on the person, as everyone is different. Now, go and relax as you see fit, and I'll see you next time."

"Thanks, I'll do that."

...

Getting home in order to change into his gym wear, Hiccup stepped into his apartment, letting the door close behind him with a soft click.

Then, he entered his room and flicked on the light.

There, on his bed, sat a certain blonde girl.

"What the fuck are you doing here?" Hiccup snarled the question.

Cami raised an eyebrow. "Hello to you too, Hiccup."

"Get the fuck out, Cami."

She sighed. "I will. As soon as we talk. So let's talk."

Hiccup turned her back to her as he approached the drawers in his room. "I have nothing to say to you after what you did. Now leave. I'm going to the gym."

"Mind if I tag along?"

"Of course."

"Well, that's too bad. I'm coming along anyway."

Hiccup paused in the act of picking out suitable gym clothes to turn and face her. Then a moment passed where he glared at her in silence. "Start talking. I want to see you try and fail at fixing us."

"Okay, I made a mistake. I-I should have told you that I was going on a mission-"

"No shit. Cami, it didn't even matter that you stood me up at that restaurant. All you had to do then was show up and explain things. Instead, you send some girl I had sex with once and your mother."

His voice cracked and he looked down at the floor. "W-why didn't you say something beforehand? A-am I some stranger or something? We've been dating for four years, and you couldn't just talk about that with me? I mean, I've told you when I went on tour and what my secret job is for fuck sake."

His rant over, Hiccup wiped his eyes then stared expectantly at her. "Explain why you did it, then get out."

Cami said nothing, so Hiccup sighed and continued.

"You've been gone for two weeks without a single message of any kind, so you might as well head back to wherever you had gone with your things. Get your things. You have until I get back from the gym or I'm calling the police. Maybe getting a restraining order as well. Goodbye."

Then he left the room, heading for his bathroom to change into the gym-wear he had picked out.

After emerging, dressed in grey sweatpants and a black t-shirt, he returned to his bedroom for his shoes, finding it was now devoid of any sign of buxom blondes.

She's gone? Good. I wouldn't have been able to face her again.

Donning his shoes, Hiccup reached for a coat that hung from a hook on the back of his bedroom door. Putting it on, Hiccup was about to leave when his phone; which resided on the nightstand by his bed, vibrated as it received a text.

It won't mean much to you, and it shouldn't, but I'm sorry for what I did. I'm also heading back home. You won't see me for a while, if ever again.

I'll send someone to pick up my things later, so don't worry about that.

Farewell from a stupid bitch.

Hiccup put down the phone, then sat on his bed as the tears formed anew.

I can't do this... I need to forget about her, and therapy won't work... Maybe hanging out with Eret and Fishlegs will?

Hiccup wiped his eyes dry for the second time that day, then scrambled for his phone once more.

A/N: Next chapter will definitely be NSFW, you have been warned.

Now I'm going to go and try finishing TGS chapter 22 promptly for a change.

Silvolde out.
