Reader POV
Link comes down the stairs
as i'm waiting for him at the bottom, but a noticeable pout is spread across his face.
He looks genuinely tired and sad for the second time coming out from speaking with Impa, and I was slightly worried.
I pull myself up from the ground where I previously sat criss -cross, and notice small tears pooled in his eyes as he walks closer.
"Link!" I say, walking up to him, but all he does is wrap his arms around me tight, and sniffle softly into my shoulder.
"they're dead. the champions are dead and it's all my fault. I couldn't save them...I-I couldn't save them, I couldn't do it"
"Link, what happened in there?!" I ask, rubbing his head and leaning my cheek against his own.
"Impa. she told me...each of the divine beasts were wielded by the four Champions...but they were killed by Ganon, and he took over their beasts as his own. I couldn't save them. I couldn't even save myself, apparently, y/n" He briefly explains, his voice growing more hoarse with each word.
I hug him tighter and rub his back.
"it's going to be okay. let's sit and talk" I say, and lead him over to the side where we sit at the edge of a cliff.
He looks over at me after making himself comfortable on the grass, and the sunshine bouncing off the waterfall shine into the tears still forming in his eyes, making them look quite beautiful actually.
I felt bad he was so upset over whatever was explained to him, but maybe bringing up my thoughts would cheer him up a bit.
"you know...your eyes look so pretty right now in the sun..." I say, giving him a small smile and he leans closer to me with another sniffle.
"y-you think so?" He asks with raspy voice.
I smile and nod my head.
"of course! or else I wouldn't have said it, silly"
He lets out a small chuckle, which was definitely deserved, and I was happy I could cheer him up slightly.
I look out into the waterfall and clear my throat, waiting for the right time to ask what else had happened.
"you look really pretty too..." He says softly, leaning against my shoulder.
The feeling caused my face to heat up, and I grew slightly nervous, but I leaned against his head anyway as he leaned himself against me.
"thank you...that's very sweet of you" I say, bringing my arm around to rub his shoulder.
"if you don't want to talk about what happened in there, you don't have to. I'm curious, but I don't want you to get more upset" I say, and he sits up straight again.
"it's okay, I can talk about it" He says, looking into my eyes with a small grin.
"alright. take your time though" I say, leaning back on my arms with a smile.
He looks out at the waterfall and sighs.
"so, about the divine beasts first...we have to go to each of the points glowing on the map of my Slate. those are the beasts, and I was ordered to take them back and avenge the Champions who fell" He says, shuffling uncomfortably.
"Daruk of the Gorons controlled divine beast Vah Rudania, Vah Medoh was controlled by Revali of the Rito, Mipha of the Zora controlled Vah Ruta, and lastly Vah Naboris controlled my Urbosa of the Gerudo" Link explains each of the beasts and the champions who wielded them.
"I have to meet with the leaders and bring the beasts back to our side, Impa saying it's extremely ill advised to defeat Ganon without them"
Link sniffs and brings his hands up to his eyes, rubbing his face and pushing his hair back with an exhale.
"you doing okay?" I ask suddenly, and he chuckles, leaving a bit of silence as he thinks for a moment.
"if i'm crying over this, then I should give up now, shouldn't I?" He says, looking up at me with a guilty look.
I furrow my eyebrows and give him a disappointed look.
"how could you say that? I believe in you and you should believe in yourself too. you were saved and chosen again for a reason, Link!" I say, grabbing his hand and shaking it.
"you're a dummy! it'll be alright" I say.
"you've got your trusty ol' stable girl to kick Ganons ass with you" I say playfully, and he chuckles with a roll of his eyes.
"yeah, you're right" He sighs looking down at the waterfall, now glowing red and orange from the setting sun.
"you're lucky to be alive right now, and its for a reason"
It then goes quiet for about a minute after I say that, before he speaks up again.
"Princess Zelda is all alone fighting Ganon right now. I cant leave her like that. I cant fail" He says, a determined look spreading across his face.
I was happy he gained a bit more confidence back, but a slight wave of jealousy roamed my chest as he mentioned the Princess.
Did he love her? 100 years ago?
My mind wanders as I face the ground, criss-crossing my legs.
Why does it matter, y/n? Link doesn't like you like that...the flirting is only child's play...
I don't like him like that though...
do I?
"y/n? are you okay?" Link asks abruptly, making me jump slightly and my face to warm up a bit.
"y-yes, sorry! i'm okay..." I say, looking at the now starry sky with narrowed eyes.
"what were you thinking about?" he asks, and I shake my head.
"nothing important, it's okay. I'm glad your determination is back, that's all, i'm just happy for you" I say, smiling bashfully at him.
He raises his eyebrows, telling me he didn't really believe what I was saying, but he didn't continue to pry.
"s-so, anyway, what else happened?"
He perks up at the question and goes to pull something out from his belt.
He shows me a blue shirt, with a white pattern around the neck of the shirt that seems to look like a sword.
"Link, it's so pretty" I say, gently stroking the fabric.
"it's called the Champions Tunic, only given to be worn by a person respected by the royal family...and it's mine" He says, and I can see the glow in his eyes.
It makes me happy to see him like this, instead of sad like before.
"i'm gonna put it on" He says, hurrying himself to get up.
I watch as he stands and wastes no time before removing his previous shirt, now revealing his bare top half.
My face turns red and I told myself to look away, but I just...
didnt.
His body was perfectly toned, and he didn't look as strong as he actually is, but he was still incredibly attractive.
He didn't even seem to have noticeable abs or anything either, or maybe they're only visible when he flexes.
Something else I noticed was a giant scar stretched across his chest and stomach area.
I didn't stare for long, but it definitely had my mind wandering a bit, and I felt bad for him.
But, regardless, he was very attractive.
Before he could even realize I was staring, he slips the shirt over his head, and fixes the rest of his gear before sitting back down next to me.
"it's very comfy. I like it" He says with a smile.
"it does fit you perfectly" I say with a chuckle.
I look back out at the sky to see a bunch of twinkling stars, the night sky being clear of clouds tonight.
"it's already dark. we should head to the inn again and get some sleep for tomorrow. do you know what's next?" I ask Link.
"well...now we start our journey to the beasts" He says as I stand up next to him.
My face lights up with excitement thinking about finally traveling out farther than Central Hyrule.
Sure, I was a bit nervous too, but I didn't want that to get in the way of finally enjoying my time out in the open.
I couldn't wait to discover these new lands.
"so, where to first?!" I say excitingly, leaning forwards and grabbing at his hands. He jumps a bit, and smiles at my excitement.
"the closest to us right now is Zoras Domain. That's where we'll meet with the leader and take back Vah Ruta" Link says gently, gripping at my hands reassuringly. He then suddenly moves closer to me, and my eyes widen slightly.
"y/n, before we go any further than here... are you sure you're okay with doing this? it isn't going to be easy and it will most likely get dangerous too...I just don't want you to be unsure" He whispers gently, and I could feel his warm breath on my face.
"im staying with you, Link. i've made my decision" I say with a sigh.
"then I will keep my promise of protecting you, I swear I will make sure nothing bad happens to you" He states protectively.
"but aside that, I'm excited too" He adds on with a smile.
I chuckle and remove my hands from his,
"let's go crash. we've got an even bigger day ahead of us" I say, grabbing at one of his hands again and leading him back to the inn, where we then immediately passed out as soon as our heads hit the pillows.
